Back home - surgery went great

I just wanted to post that I am now back home (yay).

I had gastric bypass surgery preformed on December 6th. To everyones amazement - my back pain bothered (and of course still bothers) me more than the surgery pain. Waking up in recovery my main complaint was my back is killing me and the shooting pain down my legs hurts like a bleep. The poor nurse in recovery I guess wasn't told that I had warned them about putting me flat on my back and the problems it would create - but I needed to be that way for the operation - well she started flipping out with "they didn't even touch your back" and ran to get a doctor to whom I told the back pain is nothing new - but isn't my stomach supposed to hurt worse?

The procedure was a little off from the norm - he had to work around two ulcers in tough places - but other than that I was good. I was demanding to walk as soon as I was wheeled into my room - I told them the bed hurt my back and I wouldn't be using it much. It amazed me how people with no other problems having the surgery before mine weren't up walking around - one even refusing to get up and walk - even with the risks of blood clots. The nurses also told me that I was very cheerful for someone coming out of surgery - and having major pain issues to boot.

A few good things though - with my new thumb sized tummy - and crushed medication - (yes I checked and made sure they were safe) - pills sure to kick in much quicker than they used to!

And congratulations on successful surgery. A friend of mine had lap band surgery over a year ago and she's doing wonderful. With your cheery attitude I just know you'll do fine. I admire your courage.
