Hey guys.. I'm a 19 year old male here. I have been on Remicade since July and have enjoyed a nice remission ever since. I feel like I have my life back!

Over the past week, however, my urine has started to smell really funky and there have been a 1 or 2 times where I am guessing a little air has come out. I wasn't sure about the air, however, because it happened so quickly. At any rate, maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but what have been your personal experiences with bladder fistulas?

I am seeing my doctor Friday morning (my urologist).. until then, however, I will be a nervous wreck! I need to take it easy!


I have read that antibiotics can often time help fistulas. Then also surgery may have to occur aswell. Can anybody fill me in on the treatment for getting rid of this sucker?

Yazman, Hi....I've had a fistula to my bladder prior to me even knowing I had Crohn's. My 27 year old daughter has CD and I had remembered reading about air passing through while urinating while she was young. From what I have read it is one of the complications that indicate surgery. They have to go in and repair the bladder. I don't want to scare you. I know other fistulas are treated first with meds but I think bladder fistulas have to be repaired.

I think you'll be okay waiting.

Just a good note though. After my surgery, and since I'm being treated, I am feeling better then I have in years. I just always thought I was a lazy slug with IBS, not that I had a chronic illness causing me fatigue. So, in other words, if you have to have surgery you can and may be in remission for years and years and feeling better then you have prior to surgery.

I know many people steer away from surgery but there are benefits to it. I had half my large intestines removed and do have to deal with minor annoinances(sp?) but I don't wear a bag and am hoping for a long, long remission from this disease.

Just sending you some positive thoughts. Let me know what the doc says.
