Remicade Failure?

I've had six infusions of Remicade with no remission achieved.  Does anyone know how long a GI wll generally keep a patient on this treament?  How long does it take to know whether or not it is working?

I guess it depends on what you think of as 'remission'.   I've been on remicade for 3 years (i think) and it just helps my symptoms and closes my fistula for 7 weeks at a time.

That's right. I'm not perfect, still going five to 6 times a day (sometimes more probably depending on stress and food) but I have no pain and keep my weight.
If you're worried, talk to your doctor.

I know it took my Daughter a little more than six infusions (7-8?) before we could consider her in remission.
Thinking it might depend on how bad of straits the patient's disease is in as to how quick Remicade might get it under control.

Some patients notice immediate results and others, it can take 3 or even more infusions. My Daughter being the high end of it. But she was pretty darn sick when it was started trying to wean off Prednisone and trying to get Imuran to therapeutic levels.

Some GIs will up the dose of Remicade sometimes to see if faster results might be achieved or schedule the infusions closer together for awhile. Need to have a good chat with your GI as to what his/her plans are if you feel Remicade is not being effective.

Hi I have been using Remicaid for over 3 years, yes it helps, I had to up the dose to the max and change the dose to every 5 weeks. I do get some relief and I am completely off the dreded steroids, is this remission, complete no, but better is the word that fits. going to get the infusion and it's aftermathe is the tradeoff I do suffer after the infusion, but I have this period where I feel it helps. I know the Crohn's is there if I stop as I feel it coming back near the infusion date, and it somewhat subsideds after the infusion. Thats my Remiciad response.

I've had 6 infusions also-7th is next week. I just saw Dr. Ullman at Mt. Sinai and he told me to stay on it. I do have to have another seton put in on thursday  because I got another fistula after my 2 nd infusion. It is not healing by remicade alone. Not sure what your syymptoms are but make sure you don't have an infection.....

Hi I have been on Remicade for over 2 plus years and in remission. It depeneds on your doctor how long they try remicade with you.

You suffer how? I'm suppose to start Remicade on wednesday..and I'm have a bit of apprehension.

I think he means he suffers with crohns symtpoms then after that he has a period where it helps.

Not trying to answer for crohnie1985, but just wanted to put your mind at ease Matty G. I have been on remicade for over 3 years. No side effects or anything. Good luck on Wed. Let us know how it goes.
