Well I had my first treatment of remicade, thanks to everyone for their advice.  I went through it fine and haven't felt anything different as of yet.  Is it okay to drink beer while you are on pentasa?  When do you start to feel any effects of the remicade?  Next step is another colonoscopy to check on the stricture, how many of you have had to have surgery because of a stricture that won't allow the scope to go through?

43 yr old F, diagnosed: June 93

1 surgery, have a stricture right now mad

remicade 1 dose so far

meds: pentasa 500mg 2 pills 4x a day
zoloft 50mg once a day
multivitamin
calcium

yeah  looking forward to a few more 5k's in the spring and hopefully a 10k before next winter..God willing!

I really don't know the answer to this but it wouldn't hurt to call your doc or maybe even the pharmacist and ask if its ok to have beer while on Pentasa. One may not hurt but its best to ask and be safe.

I meant have a beer while on remicade not pentasa.....

does anyone know if it matters if you drink or not?

I was on remicade for almost 3 years. I had an occasional cocktail or glass of wine. I never had a problem bUT that was me. My GI had no problem with me having a drink now and then. However you probably should ask your GI for his opinion.

I did find that when I first started Imuran, I had a problem with alcohol. I had a drink at my daughter's birthday celebration that was two days after I started the medication. That one drink was like having 4 shots at once in the way it knocked me for a loop. Since then I learned I had to have food in my stomach and sip the drink very, very slowly. I know it was the reaction with Imuran because I had not started Remicade yet.

Hi I would ask your doctor first about having a drink. I have been on Remicade for over 2 years. I stay away from any drinking of beer or any liquor.

Hi Runner 43,

one of the questions asked when I go for my remicade infusion is do I drink and how much.

I answer these truthfully and they never have any problem with this.

I'm not a huge drinker, but usually have a pint of beer or a glass of wine most evenings.

At the weekend I'll have about 1 to 2 bottles of wine (not in the one night) and maybe a beer or two.

The Remicade reduces your immune system, Alcohol also reduces your immune system.

As long as the alcohol is not affecting you too much and you're sensible....

But as the others have suggested, why not ask the docors and see if they have any issue with this
