My daughter has been on liquid diets several times. She is on one now due to some complications of not being able to have her Remicade on time. It certainly has "held" the Crohn's to a point for her. Helped us avoid Prednisone several times when she began to flare. We see an integrative approach M.D. in addition to our G.I. for my daughter and she has directed us on the liquid diet. We cook a chicken (preferrably organic), with grated ginger, a little garlic, onion, sea salt, apple cider vinegar (2 T) for four hours. We remove the chicken after about 1 1/2 hours, debone it, and put everything BUT the chicken meat back in the pot for the remainder of the time. It makes a very nutritious (and tasty) broth. We also add carrots and zucchini the last 30 minutes. We strain the broth, puree the vegies (when she is able to tolerate them) and put them back into the broth. Later, when she is able, we drizzle an egg yolk in a serving of broth for egg drop soup.
We alternate the broth with cooked fruit (simmered in water in a pan until very soft) yogurt (we make our own) smoothies.
That way she's getting protein and carbs from several different food sources.
Hope that helps.
my daughter is on Remicade too, had her first double dose last week monday. She started have LRQ pain again....she has a narrowing there..now she can't eat anything solid with out major pain. She is reluctantly drink boost, liquid yougurt, soups and jello.
Question about your soup. You said after about 1 1/2 hrs youtake out the chicken, debone it and put everything BUT the chicken back in. Is this really what you meant? Or did you mean you only put the chicken meat back in? You wouldn't put the skin and bones back in, would you? Sorry, I am a bit confused. lol. What do you do with the chicken meat?
I am asking because this is something I could make for my daughter, just want to make sure I do it right!
