Hospitalized for first obstruction

Hi,

I was hospitalized after my first intestinal obstruction. The cat scan showed it was pretty significant. I am not on 9 mg of entocort plus my pentasa. This was two weeks ago and I am still severely bloated and my tummy is so distended I look like I am nine months pregnant. I am falling asleep throughout the day and can barely work four days a week. I am only eating chicken noodle soup and noodles. My doctor just took me off of dairy. I have bm's but it is minimal. Is this normal after an obstruction? What should I do? I am only 27 and I feel like I am barely surviving. I will accept any advice. My doctor is running blood tests tomorrow, but I don't want to end up back in the hospital. I am not in pain, I just feel like a balloon that will burst aqt any moment. Please let me know what you think and where I should go from here.

Hi kgirlie, I am sorry you are not feeling well. I hope your doctor can give you some relief from the discomfort. My prayers will be with you. You could also talk to your doctor about Remicade of Humira.

Hmm..well first off I am sorry that you had an obstruction those babies HURT! Well when I had mine I was sent to the ER because I was doubling over in pain, but I ended up being admitted so they didnt let me leave until the obstruction had cleared. I dont think that what your describing is normal, and it sounds like you may not be completely obstructed, but maybe partially since things are moving through slowly. I would call your doc, and tell him your concerns. You may have to go back to the hospital, and I know it isnt fun, but you will feel better. Best of Luck!

So sorry you are feeling so bad. Those obstructions hurt like the dickens. I'm glad you are seeing the doc tomorrow. If you started the Entocort 2 weeks ago it should have already started giving you some relief. Maybe Prednisone might be a better med for you to get that inflammation under control. I would stick with a low residue diet for now. You can google it and get some examples. I live on it now. I eat no red meat (very hard to digest). I eat alot of fish, chicken and turkey. No peels or seeds or anything too fibrous. Keep us posted how your doc visit goes and what your blood tests show.

Also advise no salads, potato skins, or nuts. Those items used to throw me into obstruction right away. Starting entocort can cause bloating alone. By the end of the day, my waist goes up at least a size or two.
