I had a capsule colonoscopy done about a month ago. After two x-rays my gi decided it was not going to come out on it's own because of a stricture. I'm having a flexible sigmoidoscopy done at his office on Feb. 11 and he said that if he can't get it out that way that he will have to remove it surgically sad . According to the capsule results i have signifigant  disease and i will probably have to have surgery sometime in the near future.I'm going to ask him If he has to surgically remove the capsule if he can go ahead and remove the stricture at the same time(kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone). The only problem is that i don't have any medical insurance. The DHS office said that i don't qualify for a medicaid card because i am not disabled and i can still work( that was 4 years ago and at the time i ONLY had a mild case of crohn's). I'm going to apply again and hopefully i will get approved. So wish me luck and God bless all of you!

I think that if he has to go in there to remove the capsule and you know you already have a stricture, it would be best to kill both birds with one stone. And I definetly think you should qualify for the state aide now, because you also now have more dependents. Your kids will probably be covered too. Will definetly keep you in my prayers.

They should have not had you swallow that capsule without first doing xrays to look for narrowing and or strictures. If there was any chance at all that you were suffering from that they should not have used the capsule. As far as im concerned your doctor used very bad judgement and they should cover the cost now to get it removed.

I swallowed the capsule Valentine's Day last year... I was having severe pain but they couldnt see what exactly was causing it on any tests. The capsule got stuck and my surgeon wanted to just do a colonoscopy to see if he could remove it that way. Obviously there was a stricture so I pleaded with him to get the surgery over with and remove the camera that way. I did't want to have 2 procedures done when one could solve both issues. I feel for you as for having no insurance. I was in the hospital for 8 days and the total cost of all surgery and my stay was $43000+. I have excellent insurance and they paid 100% of it so I was lucky. Hopefully you can get some assistance. GOODLUCK!

I hate the Medicaid system in this country!!!!! But persistance definitely pays off. If you can find free legal aid see if you can get someone to help you with the application process. It also wouldn't hurt to write to your state representatives, governor, etc. and tell your story. The more noise you make, the faster you will get coverage. If you get turned down, appeal it! Also, talk to your hospital administrator and see if they can help you too. Good luck and let us know what you find out

jmb - I don't know what state you are in, but some of them have a medically indigent adult program in addition to the medicaid. My brother who has a decent job but no health insurance had to have immediate surgery for rectal cancer and the MIA program took him, even though he did not qualify for Medicaid. It's worth checking out. I think he had to pay a share the cost of about a thousand dollars, which is nothing to sneeze at but a heck of a lot better than the hospital bill.

I hope and pray it all works out ok for you and that you are able to get approved for some kind of aid/insurance.
