My daughter had her 2nd dose of Remicade yesterday and we met with her GI. The doctor wants to take her off of her 6MP and put her on methotrexate instead, because of the risk of lymphoma when on Remicade and 6MP. The GI says that methotrextate and 6MP both work equally well. Plus, it would give my daughter one less daily medicine, because methotrexate is a weekly med. I tried to do a search on methotrexate on this forum but couldn't find anything. Is anyone else on Methotrexate?

:-)  Hi ive been on methotrexate for over a year now but i am now swtching back to oral methotrexate because its more convenient for me been having  a lot of problems with the ward lately left waiting for hours for bloods and the distribution of the drug however saying that i have had no problems with this drug whatsoever i am only on 15mg it goes by your body weight.

The only disadvantage is along with every other immune system it lowers your immune system your daughter will be on weekly bloods then monthly its the 1st immune suppresent that has agreed with me i have tried

Azathioprine

Mercaptopurine

They made me so ill with side effects i ended up in hospital methotrexate is the only drug for crohns that has kept me out of hospital the lst time i was admitted was november 2006 ive been hospital free for over a year now :-) .

Thank you! They were going to have her on oral methotrexate as well. But the doctor just called and said they want to hold off on the methotrexate while she discusses my daughter's case further with her colleagues since she is so young. So we'll find out next week what they want to do.

I love the MTX shots they are the only thing that has worked for me.

I actually have taken Methotrexate (shots) and I THINK I was taking the 6mp with it as well. It really didn't work for me, but that seems to be the story of my life. I know that with the injections, after you have a certain amount of the medication in you, they need to do a liver biopsy. Not sure if it's the same taking it orally. Luckily, I was on it for slightly less than a year and didn't get to that point. Good luck to you!
