Ok I am going in for my 4th colonoscopy next week and I am dreading the prep, I was wondring if there is any kind of laxitive pill that I can take instead of drinking that little green bottle of citrate, just the thought of that stuff makes me sick, I can get past the other stuff but not that, has anyone else taken pills instead of drinking the citrate? Thanks

Every GI seems to have their preference, you should call yours to discuss your options.

For my daughters' last colonoscopy she took osmoprep tablets. She said they were much better than drinking miralax as she has done previously. She took a pill every 15 min in two, one and a half hour segments. From 2:00-3:30 and again from 6:00-7:30. You still have to have clear liquids the entire day but if your system is clear before the time is up and can stop the pills early. Hope this was helpful =). Good luck and I hope all goes well! Hi, I was also dreading taking the prep before surgery 2 wks ago and asked my surgeon if there was a pill form he could recommend but he unfortunately only feels best results from the citro-mag drink. uggh. So I did manage to drink it down when I mixed it with ice cold ruby red grapefruit and tangerine juice. He suggested cranberry juicy but this was what we had in the fridge at the time so I tried it and it was actually tolerable. I split the bottle into 6 portions and mixed it with the juice and drank it all within an hour. I did that again the 4 hours later but this time it did it in 3 batches to get it over with. I plugged my nose while I chugged it back and afterwards all that I could taste was the grapefruit, so it worked well. Don't know if I will ever be able to drink that juice again though and will have to find different juice next time! Good Luck.

Ask for Visicol tablets. They have no taste and you just drink them with clear liquid. It is so much better than the junk they make you drink.

Prior to drinking the prep I went to Mcdonalds and snagged a couple of straws (their straw seem to be extra wide) to help get the drink down quicker.

One time I was in the hospital I was given a concentrated dose....it was 3 or 4 doses that I was able to slam down like shots at a bar.

Hi I would take to the doctor about Osmo-prep tablets. I always have hated the liquid preps yuk.

I don't know about you, but after taking that nasty stuff a few times, I have developed a hate for anything lemon-lime. I mixed it with EVERYTHING and nothing worked well.  My stomach turns just thinking about it.  So imagine my disgust when I was told I would be getting my yearly done....it is actually tomorrow.  When I told my GI of my hate for the prep, he was very sincere about it.  He recommended that I take the Osmo-prep tablets and wasn't at all hesitate about it not doing a good enough job.  The best thing was that they had samples of it and gave me one...otherwise it would have cost me $50.  Call your GI's office and ask about the prep pill and ask if they have any free samples that you may be able to have.  I start my prep tonight and I'm looking forward to no lemon-lime, ginger ale type taste!!  It never hurts to ask!!!

Ya it is a little to late I just finished drinking the citrate, oh my god! I think I am going to puke, my colonoscopy is tommorow also. I have to start drinking the overload solution at 7:00 tonight, that is bad but not half as bad as the citrate, I will be glad when it is all over, my colonoscopy isn't until 3:00 tommorow so I am sure I will be nice and sick by then. well talk to ya'll later off to the bathroom, wish me luck.

Referring to the above posts that used ruby grapefruit and cranberry with the prep,  my sheets have always said to avoid any red-colored drinks?

I did the viscol tablets this last time, and wound up throwing up from them.  I now can't take big pills without gagging.  I think it was almost as bad as the mag. citrate.
