sex drive and crohns...35 yr old man

whats up my friends.  So let me lay it down for you as it is. Im 35, have had crohns disease for 15 years....have taken asacol, 6mp, immuran, prednisone, cipro, flagyl,remmicade, entocort, and now humira....(currently take asacol, humira, and flagyl and cipro as needed as well as iorn for anemia mad .) i have also had surgery in 2004 removing the cecum and the terminal illeum!!! having said that let me say this...for the last 4 years my sex drive and ability has become increasingly worse..I do not believe it is directly related to my surgery as the problem startes before that..i have been to urologists and other doctors and no one can suggest a difinitive cause.....as of latey i have almost no interest in sex. I do not mean to offend anyone, my sex drive/performance was fine till about 4 years ago. I take v. as needed, which works, but the side effects kinda annoy me. CAN ANYONE ELSE HELP ME, DIRECT ME, SHARE A PRODUCT THAT HELPED, SHARE SOME ADVICE THREY GOT FROM THERE DOCTOR, TELL ME SIMILAR EXPERIENCE....HELP. This crohns takes away enogh from our lives, and this i am not prepared to give up without a fight. thanks mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad mad I also do not know if it is my libido or a physical problem here....neither does anyone else.....help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish there was something I could say to help, but it seems that you are doing about everything you can. Being a female
I guess it's not quite so important for me, but I know this is a very common problem. I guess it's pretty difficult to feel sexy
when you're feeling pretty sick. I've suffered the same problem now for years, I just thank God for an understanding husband.

I hope someone comes along here, who can give you some help. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone... Good Luck.

Hi Have you discussed this with your Dr. ? I would think that you would need some medical advice to help you with this matter. Hopefully there will be some guys on here that can help you. lol gail

Are you sure depression is not the root cause? Lots of things effect drive, inculding meds of course..
I really don't know any meds that ACTUALLY increase drive though. There are always folk remedies, but they are mostly bunk.

Good suggestion Reef. TW sorry you're having this problem. I would imagine this plays with your self esteem quite a bit. Are you single to boot? I am also female with an understanding husband. At my age dark chocolate is better than sex to me! It's not so much that I'm not interested because I am. I just get all worked up an can't finish the task at hand if you know what I mean. I HATE THIS! My OB GYN kinda floats by any conversation I come up with concerning my libido. Natural hormones weren't of much help either. I know this doesn't help...but if you find something that works let us all know!

I know you mentioned taking viagra when needed...did you know viagra was/is used as a cross-over drug for IBD?

Oh, BTW. I have had times when the drive just DIES. It actually happens to all of us guys, sooner or later. Certainly, when I flare I don't have much interest, because I don't feel clean & I certainly don't want to be social then.
However, mine always returns sooner or later. I've found out I can use those times to accomplish other things that need attention in life.
Recently, I found a great book on all things related to male sexuality.
Its called " The New Male Sexuality" by Bernie Zibergeld. Its the COMPLETE deal. In fact I'm bitter about this topic, as I didn't have access to the information he has. My Love life in the 80's would have been SO much better.

Also there are stereotypes that state that all men should want to have sex all the time and it is to the point that some women start believing something is wrong with them if their partner doesn't want to have sex with them at the moment. I know I believed that all men should always want to when you wanted to before I ended up with my husband and had honest communication. I'm 30 and didn't meet him until 26-you'd think I would have figured it out before then.

However, I don't think sex drives are different between men and women. They just differ person to person. I know that myself and many of my friends are interested more frequently than are spouses. (My husband would kill me if he knew I said that-which goes to show that men buy into those stereotypes too). There are also women that are patient and understanding. Hope you figure out the problem/find comfort.

Actually, I have encounterd aggressive women ( mostly when I was in college) that a man must want ALL the time, & be READY at a moments notice. Its a little bit more true in your teens & early twenties. But as one matures, men get more control. They also start needing more complex stimulation..

he he, from my personal experiance not all men get "more control" as they mature (and my hubby would kill me for saying so)...he'll be 40 this june. Mind you, we have been together since he was 14 and I must say, not much if anything, has changed in the department.

pb4- My husband is in his 50's and still having the every 16 second thoughts of sex! On the opposite side of the coin here TW....any advise how to shut him down! I think I'm like some of you...hard to feel sexy when you're in pain, poopin' all the time and have dang psorasis to boot! Not to mention the parasympathetic nervous system comes into play too!

Pain, bleeding, The Big D, not conduicive to one feeling attractive. I had a very high sex drive in the early years, but no interest in finding a date for the above reasons. ( Also, flat broke..).
Pb4, give it a couple more years. Beside, I meant more control over response there, not desire. I'm still betting depression is behind the above problem

You mean all I've got is a couple of more years sad ...his control over response hasn't changed yet either...but you can't compare someone with health issues to someone with no health issues either I suppose...and, everyone is different.  But for now (and still) my hubby is still my "trooper".

       I'm still not sure if is problem is desire, or the more mechanical one for which Viagra would help.

       PPS. Emmy, those sterotypes are almost beaten into our skulls, even from family. Its almost comical.
