Entocort versus Antibiotic Question

I'm looking for help in knowing the better decision between Entocort or Antibiotics as next step in treatment of Chron's. (I'm sure it depends on the person, but know that many of you have great wisdom you could share!)

I've been taking Pentasa for aprox. 2 1/2 months and have continued to have cramping and/or pains (like being stabbed with a pencil) in my lower abdomin. So, at my GI appt today my Dr. said that he would like me to start on an antibiotic or entocort.  He tried explaining the difference to me and answer my questions about which would be the least likely to cause side effects while helping the inflamation in the ilieum.  It sounded like the antibiotic would have to be taken for a longer period of time and can cause yeast infections for many woman (which I'd really like to avoid).  The entocort should not produce the side effects like with prednisone and would be prescribed for a month, then taper from there.

Does anyone have experience, thoughts or advice about the two options? Anything would be great b/c I felt that my Dr. was really not directing me to one over the other.

My daughter's GI opted for Entocort, which has put her into remission. When she tried to go off the Entocort, she flared...Cipro was given to try to stop the flare, but instead caused a high fever.

Soon after she started the Entocort, her colonoscopy results indicated possible C Diff (she didn't have D, so we're not sure she had it) so she went on Flagyl while on the Entocort. The two together caused oral thrush. Flagyl also caused cramps, unclear thinking, extreme fatigue.

So for her, the antibiotics didn't work and caused side effects.

The entocort has been wonderful for me all 3 times I've been on it, never been on antibiotics for Crohn's. Of course since I've been on it 3 times, that tells you it is for acute inflammation, but not for maintenance.

Thanks for your input. I guess I'm going to tell the Dr. I'd prefer Entocort, more than anything...the amount of time he is saying that I'd be on it, would likely be shorter than antibiotics. Hopefully it'll get everything under control...
