Hi,

I was just curious if anybody on the board is from MA and, if so, where they go to be seen and what their experiences have been?

I'm from MA.  South shore.   I'd be interested in any responses.   I am not to fond of my current doctor.   Will be changing to Dr. Wolf at Beth Israel (when I get pregnant).   She specializes in Crohns/pregnancy.   After I spit out two kids (God willing), I'll be in search of another doctor on the south shore.

Lenny, what kind of experiences have you had?

Hi,

When I was first diagnosed 10 years ago, I had a great doctor and surgeon at Lahey Clinic.  He was the head of the department, but unfortunately went to Albany, NY.  I think that the level of care dropped considerably.

Currently I have a Dr. at Beth Israel and he is great.  He always gets back to me right away.  He is on the CCFA and teaches at Harvard as well. 

I feel that responsiveness and the ability to listen is almost as important as how intelligent/experienced a doctor is.

What is his name? Maybe when I am done with children he may accept me as a patient (especially if I can get a referal from Dr. Wolf).

His name is Dr. Kenneth Falchuk.  He owns and runs an endoscopy center in Natick as well.  Good luck!

If Korzenik is still in Boston I highly recommend him. He is very good, very compassionate, and always returns phone calls!

I live north west of Boston. I've met Doctor Wolf when I was in Beth Israel a couple of years ago. She was my room mates' doctor. I see another doctor at Beth Israel a couple of times a year, but I also see a local doctor. They both trained together, so they have a good working relationship and I like that I don't have to drive into Boston every month or so.

Dr. Korzenik is my doctor. I can't say enough good things about him.

I see Dr. Sonia Friedman at Brigham and Women's.  She has helped so much in the last 4 years that I have gone to her.  Her associates are wonderful as well.  She gets right back to you either by phone or email and really works with you to help you feel the best that you can.

The Colorectal Surgeons are wonderful as well as I have had 3 surgeries there over the last 3 years.  They all really work together to get you to feel better.

The Pain Clinic there is wonderful as well.

When I was a kid I lived in SouthCoast Mass and saw a doctor in New Bedford who was very well known. I was not impressed at all with my treatment there. He just assumed that I had bad acid reflux like my dad and refused to further test me. He eventually did a sigmoid at my insistence and said I was fine. So from age 13-22 I "just" had acid reflux. As soon as I moved to Maine I got a new doc who really listened to me, ran the right tests, and diagnosed me with crohns asap. Actually, before he had a true diagnosis he started me on asacol b/c I was getting married in less than 6 months and he wanted me healthy for my wedding. I have no problems getting an appointment in Maine and can talk as long as I want to. Way happier than I was with my doctors down here. The only exception is I am having trouble finding a gyno who can search for a fistula. But I have a new lead and will be trying to make an appointment soon.

That was my problem - a doctor who would search for my vaginal fistula.   I went to OBGYN, GI Dr and a Urologist - they all kept pointing fingers back at each other saying it was the other doctors' issue. 

Luckily I found Dr. Wolf who is a Gastro/OBGYN.  What a blessing.   Good luck

Great responses and sharing.  I am thrilled that you all seemed to have found good physicians.  The physician/patient trust issue is so important with this disease.
