Poopy Accidents?

Ok, I know this a very personal thing to talk about so if I don't get any replies I will certainly understand......Having said that, I'm curious to know how many of you have actually had an accident in your pants?  Since my resection I have constant diarrhea (8wks now) and sometimes I just barely make it to the bathroom in time.  There have been a couple of times that I barely sit down and it all explodes! (TMI I know) I go back to work next week and to be honest I'm afraid of having an accident at work.  What if someone is already in the bathroom, what if I'm in the middle of something that I can't quickly walk away from (I'm a nurse) etc.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who has felt this way right?  I really can't believe all of the stuff we put up with having this darn disease.  I never would have guessed that my life would turn out to revolve around bathrooms.  I think I know every bathroom within a twently mile radius!  Ridiculous!  So, back to my question.....

Been there, done that...very embarassing even if it's in the car with just your 5 yr old (at the time) in the car with you...unfortunately it can be the nature of the beast and as degrading as it makes you feel it's out of your control so you try not to let the emotions and the embarassment get to you, easier said then done, but making sure you have a change of undies helps, I'd wear a pad or even Depends daily if I was you being concerned with accidents at work...it'll likely make you feel more secure even though it can be degrading wearing depends when you're not 90 yrs old, it still beats pooping in your panties.

It might also be worth considering discussing your problems with your doctor. I think sometimes they forget the impact that this disease can have on our self-esteem and our social and professional lives, and your doc may truly not realise just how serious your illness is. Also, I've noticed from your sig that you are not on any topical meds. You may be able to get some relief from using some sort of (prescribed) enema or suppository. I know it's not a nice prospect, but these meds can heal things in the lower bowel and improve your bowel control.

Please don't worry - you are definitely not alone in this! I think we've all had accidents at some point with this dd.

I pooped in a restaurant after a colonoscopy once. My friend brought me there because I wanted pancakes for some stupid reason. As I sat there, I just let loose, totally without intent. Went to the bathroom after that one and let myself "go free." Ah, I feel your pain.

In all honesty there are few Crohns or UC patients who have not had the dreaded "accident" which is simply a polite way to describe an untimely eruption in your undies, and maybe beyond! Worst for me was in the drive-through line at the bank with a car in front and one behind and nowhere to go. When I got to the window I asked if they could loan me a newspaper and promptly placed it under me to save the car seat. It happens, it's part of the disease and all the advice from extra drawers to Depends are good. Fact is, these are conditions characterized by sometimes sudden and uncontrollable evacuations from the rear end, so accidents are going to happen.

Well, there are only a few differences between humans and animals and frankly I wish we could just walk around and poop where ever we needed to and it would be considered acceptable like it is with the animal world...it would be fun to be a bird, flying around crapping on peoples heads, so many of them would deserve it LOL!

I'm so blessed. I've had 4 accidents (all stemming from what I thought would be a tiny little fart). 3 of them happened at home. One time I was at my remicade treatment, lucily I was alone in the room. I JUMPED(!) up before it could soak into my pants. unplugged the IV and ran to the bathroom. I threw out my underwear and washed up in there. I was so lucky that it was one of the very few times I've been alone in the treatment room.

been there done that.  Actually still there.  hope someday they will find some thing for us to control the crap.  I remember one time when i first met my wife.  we were dating for about 4 months.  We were driving and i kinda crapped the old pants while we were driving. Lucky i had some clean clothes with me.   we were about a half mile from a rest area.  i asked while i was runnig to the rest room to bring my bag in.  and of course she did.  the wife is a nurse so she understood.  still does after 6 yrs.  I use t/p instead of depends.  works for me.  and i am not the kinda guy to that uses depends.  another thing i use in bed is a blue accident (chuck) the call them in the hospital.  i put a towel on top of it because it makes me sweat.   Yes it is really hard at time emotionally.  It is just part of this darn disease.   I at times use immodium it does help believe me

I had this problem a lot. It actually turned into severe anxiety and I had to go see a therapist. I started doing breathing exercises daily to try and adapt. I find the only thing that helps me is being overprepared. The emergency kit is key! Once I started to work on my anxiety things got a little better. Not to say I still don't run but there are less and less situations. Immodium helps me too. I think it might be psychological but if I am going to be in a situation where it may be akward to run off I take it in advance. My doctor suggested on my wedding day and I have been doing it ever since. I also started coming up with great reasons to run off. I use the "nosebleed" excuse a lot. Cover my face and run to the washroom. Anything to get me there faster. I would let your other colleagues know that you are not a hundred percent yet. You don't have to give them details but at least they'll be expecting you to run sometimes.

I know its awful. I can think of nothing worse. My husband has seen it all with me and I still get embarassed. Good luck and stay positive as hard as that sounds.

When flaring really bad and having to be woken in the night for a BM, I sleep with a towel folded in half under my butt.

I noticed your surgery was Jan 08. Give yourself some time. A resection is very stressful on your body and will take some time for your digestive system to heal. As a nurse I'm sure I don't have to tell you this. Best advice I can give is stay away from anything leafy! I couldn't touch anything like this for about 9 months after surgery. As for accidents and work, I plan my meals/bathroom breaks carefully. If I'm having a bad day I can count on whatever goes in my mouth will exit within an hour. So...I may have a boost at my desk an hour before my lunch break. I usually go to the bathroom when I get up before work so that's not a problem. I eat breakfast when I get up and usually it exits before I get into the car. I drink lots of water and eat lots of bananas (good solidifier). Sometimes my system still fails and I am in the middle of discussion with my boss and whamo...got to go...I just tell him he'll have to excuse me and leave him standing there. However, he is aware of my CD and is very supportive. As to accidents, yep, 105 degree ball tournament and the bathrooms were just as far away as my car. Good thing I chose the car, I didn't make it even half way and what was worse...I was wearing white shorts! Thank God we were winning and everyone's attention was on the game!
