Setons coming soon!

well folks, wish me luck, I go in tomorrow morning to have my very talented colo-rectal surgeon work his magic on my bum, placing some more setons in my ever-persistent fistulas!

funny thing is when I went to see my primary for my pre-op, he had no idea what a "seton" was....but was willing to give me some Ativan to deal with the anxiety that would accompany such a procedure.....what a good guy, huh?

I will report back after I come back from the dark side.......

setons are a breeze...i have 6 now lol and believe it or not, i've met with GI's, emergency room nurses etc that didnt know what they were. I hope they bring u relief.

So I guess even having the bag isnt helping with your fistulas? the hope was that mine would help with healing....

I had the head Dr/Director of an ER here in D.C. ask me what a seton was. He then went away for a few minutes and when he returned, he said he had looked it up on the web. I guess he didn't believe me. (And they are unbeleivable things, aren't they! Nasty little things but a real blesing at the same time! Just keep drain'n is what I say!!) But as soon as it was clear he didn't know what one was, I knew I wasn't going to let him anywhere near me!! Only folks who know CD, thank you very much. And he agreed -- he literally said he wouldn't touch me -- that I needed to see my Dr the next day. I admire his willingness to admit he was out of his league, but I found it funny to be refused by the ER!! ;-)

Firemedic -- in short, setons are threaded through fistulas to keep them open and draining. There have been several very recent posts on fistulas if you want more information.

Praying4healing -- 6 setons?! Wow! I only have two and that is plenty, thank you! I hope yours heal very soon!

Glad Bag -- I am so glad you have a knowledgeable surgeon! Take comfort thta you are in expereinced hands. I'm praying that it all goes very well and easy, with a very minimal amount of discomfort, anxiety, or stress! And tell me what color seton you get! I still think they should offer more fashionable colors than white, blue, and red.

My surgeon called them pull-tabs. I had to laugh at that one!

Glad....hope you have as good results form your seton that I had form mine. And no...no medical person knew what a seton was unless they were my surgeon or GI. My current GI looks at them as an archaic treatment but I loved the ease of the treatment and no major meds!!!

i slept until 11am today, it's so gloomy here i thought it was like 6am :/ i am pretty sure the sun isn't coming back to us ::sniffkles:: so yeah, when you are done with it ...would be so kind to send it directions to massachusetts! cricky!
