THIS IS DISTURBING ESP FOR PPL WHO TRAVEL ALOT!!!!!!

my first big flare was after a hotel stay.

This video has been circulating the net for quite some time.  I would bring my own paper cups.  :)

OMG...

I once found a hair trapped inside the plastic wrapping that was around a hotel plastic cup one time...so I swore off the "individually wrapped" plastic cups and moved over to the dishwasher-cleaned hotel glasses! UH OH! Evidently NOT a good idea!

Maybe THIS is where I picked up the "WHATEVER IT IS" that causes Crohn's!!!!

Sorry but you don't get Crohn's disease from dirty hotel glasses (just like you don't get Crohn's disease from going to Mexico like that thread a few weeks ago said).

Sure, it's unsanitary and disgusting but it does not cause Crohn's disease.
What you likely picked up was some sort of other infection (c. diff, ecoli etc) which caused you to get diarrhea/etc.
I got the Norwalk virus at work last year. That causes nausea, vomiting and insane diarrhea and cramping.. I'm not about to blame that on why I have Crohn's disease today.

I used to work in a hotel. We would be made to take washing up liquid into the rooms and wash them in the bathroom sink because the kitchen was too busy to wash them. Used clean tea towels and clean hands though, so was as clean as possible.

i went on holiday just before i got diagnosed with any illnesses, and caught salmonella from the food in the hotel, it was the worst thing i have ever gone through.

That is just wrong. No wonder why so many people are coming down with Staph and other illness. How disgusting. If I were to stay in a hotel, I would bring my own cleaning supplies, however, I just drink my Spring Water from a bottle, another mode of transmission. Oh well, as they say, "There is no place like home"!

i bring my own bottled water to a hotel but that is cos i wont drink tap water if i can help it. i never walk barefoot in there cos i dont want to get athletes foot or warts or something. i should probably bring my own pillow and sheets but i am too lazy to do that.

don't know how you got that idea from my post? I just said that I got my first big flare after a hotel stay. not that I contracted crohns from dirty hotel glasses, but go ahead & misinterpret how ever you want. also when you get off your soap box try a reading comprehension class.

I always check the edges of the mattress for bed bugs.

Also, the last hotel I stayed in at the bahamas had long streaks of poo all over the side of the toilet seat and a filthy comforter on the bed! It was one of the most expensive hotels in the area too!!!

Oh, researchers don't know what the trigger for crohns is. We know we have the defective gene(s) and a faulty immune system but something actually triggers it. We shouldn't rule out bacteria from a toilet or a glass or MAP or anything else until we know for sure.

How about the coffee pot? I take my own water bottles, don't go barefoot, carry my own pillows and walk in with a can of Lysol. Neurotic, I don't think so. Our immune systems are so compromised, I think twice about everything! I flush public toilets with my foot, don't set my purse on the floor and use hand sanitizer in restrooms so I don't have to touch the sinks, towel racks or doors unprotected.
I no longer visit people in the hospital or nursing homes unless they are dying. And I use my trusty hand sanitizer prior to and after leaving any public place including gas pumps, libraries and the like. When I get home I wash my hands with soap & water. I work in a pharmacy and I can tell you it's standard practice for each of our employees to sanitize their work areas & phones frequently.

WS Gator - I wasn't directing my comment at you specifically so thanks for misinterpreting MY post. It seems whenever things like this come up people decide that's where their Crohn's came from (not sure if you read the "Mexico Thread" or not). But, I think it happens a lot where either there's no real concrete reason why you have x-disease or when the person doesn't understand it (ie: once, my aunt told us she thought my cousin caught mono from our cat [??], and remember the fear that came along with polio).

Obviously this is a very sensitive subject otherwise you wouldn't have taken offence when there was none intended.

WS Gator, I think we should try to keep our posts positive and leave out the hurtful words. She meant no harm, just stating her opinion on this subject. I found the video quite appalling and am glad you posted it. Especially since I have a trip tomorrow to New Mexico. YIKES! I will bring my own cups. I think hotel rooms generally are disgusting, even though we choose the nicest ones we can find.
