Hi,

I had surgery 10 years ago for Crohn's and fistulas and did really well after that.  I few months back I became really sick (fever, vomiting, diarrhea) and was diagnosed with an obstruction.  I was placed on bowel rest and then given Entocort.

Recently(the past 3 days) I have been having a lot of rumblings in my stomach and have been feeling nauseous at night with some indigestion.  I have not vomited at all or had any fever.  Could this be a sign of the obstruction returning?  What is the best way to determine this?  I can't run to my doctor for every symptom or I would not be able to work.

I understand where you are coming from. This happened to me a year ago. I could never tell when i was having a blockage until the pain came and i knew i was going to be throwing up for a while until the blockage opened back up. I would call your doctor and see what they say about it. Good luck. Barb

Thanks for the response Barb.  I have an appointment in a few weeks so hopefully I will make it until then.  I am trying to put myself on a sort of bowel rest by eating less and having bad foods.  I dread having to go to the hospital again.

Sorry you are going through this!! A few weeks sounds like a long time before seeing your Dr. I suggest you keep calling to see if they have a cancellation. Let us know how it goes!

Yes, it is all so confusing.  It is so difficult to know what could be a bug or a simple upset stomach versus a flare.  My thought is that it would mimic the last time and therefore I am watching out for a fever and vomiting.  I hope I am doing the right thing.

From my own experience I have had 3 major bowel obstructions ending in resections and not once did I have a fever. If the pain is there and the nausea turns to vomiting I wouldn't wait a couple weeks. If you really want to wait it out try clear liquid diet for a couple days and increase to full then soft. If you are still unable to tolerate it you need to be seen by your Doc or in the ER.
