We did a bunch of free physical exams for high school athletes today - hundreds of us med students, thousands of high school students! - to screen the kids for all kinds of problems and also get EKGs on them to prevent sudden death from cardiac arrest on the playing field (this happens more often than you might think). I had one kid with diffuse abdominal tenderness and my goodness, he was producing so much methane I thought we might slip into an ice age then and there.
After some run-around with the attending, it was decided that the kid had simply worked out too hard the day before and strained his abdominal muscles...and was just a smelly teenager. I probably would have demanded a scope for the poor kid if it had been left up to me...
At least I didn't have to leave any exams to use the loo. And I ended up on the evening news! LOL!
