nono  I started having joint pain in my ankle. It started on 4/22 on 4/23 i had a colonoscopy and found out my crohns is active again.I have no idea how long this dd has been silently brewing. I seem to most often keep some kind of things going on with my joints and soft tissues like tendonitis and bursititis. The pain in my ankle has gotten so bad it's swelling and i'm having to use a brace. I'm on meds for arthritis and just upped my pred to 20mg. and i take 20mg weekly of mtx. It just seems like nothing is helping with the joint pain also having pain in my wrist and shoulder now. Does this sound like the typical crohns arthritis to the ones here that are suffering with joint issues or soft tissue issues. It makes me think i'm on alot of meds for no reason if i'm not getting any relief. Kay

Kay . . . that pred "should" control the joint pain too. Hopefully you will feel a difference fast. If it doesn't you really need your Rheumy's help. Sorry you are having so much trouble again (still?). Blessings!

I have a lot of joint issues. I can't take any of the arthritis type drugs because they just eat my gut up. My Rhuemy suggested I try acupuncture. I was a little skeptical, but I did give it a shot. I have been at it for a little over a year now. I am really please at how well it keeps things in check. I can't say its 100% but I would say 75 to 80% better. I go to a clinic that runs on a sliding scale so the more you go the less you pay. I try to go once a week and I pay $20, basically what a copay would be. It is worth a shot. It did take a few weeks of going several days a week to get things better but now its more of a maintenance issue and I can skip a few weeks at a time if I'm busy without too much ill effect. If you do a web search you can probably find a clinic near you.

My ankles have swollen twice on me this year. Painful to the point I cannot walk on them. I have to use crutches and cannot drive. Usually takes at least 2 weeks for the swelling to go down. VERY frustrating.

And they swell when I'm in a flare, which I am now and have been since January. I also get bursitis during a flare, spasm pain in the joints of my shoulder blades. ALL Crohn's related. I've been on 20mg of Prednisone for 2 weeks now. The swelling in my ankles went down within a week of taking it and the bursitis pain went away within a couple of days.

I'm so sorry you're having to go though all this auntkay...

My joints hurt lilke carzy. Hips, knees etc.. I can associate the increased pain with a flares. It wakes me up and keeps me from sleeping. I wish you the best with this. I don't have any real answers for you.

kay--sorry you are having so much pain--for the first time i have had the swollen ankle to where i
couldnot even have the bedcovers touch my ankle this time and walking was so hard for 2 weeks
i am always told its crohn's related arthritis--i can surely say this time it''hurt''also my lower back
and tailbone---hope you feel better soon--the family dr. gave me the doze-predisone pack for 7 days
still hurt like the d----l.have to watch the diabetes now so not alot of drugs to take--feel better soon.

Thanks Navy got up went thru all the motions and just couldn't do it. The ankle is still to painful to be on all day.Oh well there's always tomorrow i'll try again.

I had inflammatory arthritis flare a yr ago. It started with extreme back pain..then hips and pain down my legs...then swollen ankles. I was sent to a rheumy and put on Percocet for pain..as well as 60 mg pred. Get to rheumy asap. My ankles were so huge that I was in severe pain and couldn't walk for three weeks. Catch it early and save yourself from the pain and scars from ankle skin popping from swelling. My prayers are with you!

I'm still at home and off of the ankle today. It appears to have less swelling and not as painfull so maybe i'm over the worst part i'll soon know going to go back to work tomorrow.Thanks for the well wishes and advice

Good Morning Kay,

I'm so sorry you are still in so much pain with your ankle. I really thought the pred and MTX would help as that is what I am given when my joints flare. When are you going back to the doctor? Maybe some blood work could help in the diagnosis also. (((hugs))) Take care, and no running the 50 yard dash!

Hi Julia, thanks for the advice. You can rest assure i won't be sprenting the 50 yard dash lol. I don't go back to see my gi till the 23rd and the rheumy is way off. I feel all this pain and swelling was due to the arthritis and seems to be improving now. Thank God!! I hope you've had a pain free day and are feeling well hope to chat with you soon.
