yeah today was the first time I went to the therapist,and as always we talked for a hour and at the end of the conversation, She has came to the conclusion that I'm bipolar.....She said I would be going for awhile..... fun fun....Doe's anyone know if there are drugs that will effect the crohn's???? I'm having problems now, I don't need any more problems..... eyes In a different post I said I was having problems with my doctor, I told her and she could tell where I was coming from.....But I like hearing from you to yeah

it depends on what meds she wants you on, is there anyway you can find a doc you feel comfortable with (it seems like a never ending search) and therapist will check on that for you too (just let your pharmacist know as well), and I would also like to point you in the direction of the forum on healingwell for bipolar to help get you some more info on this new dx. I hope you find something to help you.

You met for one hour and she had a diagnosis? Or had you been seeing her for a while and after her full work up she came to that conclusion? I'm sorry to be nosy, but that seems odd to diagnose after an hour. Is that normal? I am glad you are getting help. I know this disease is so hard on us physically and mentally. I know some days it is hard to get up. This is a great family though, so keep coming.

kgirlie, Yes it was only one hour and she came it her conclusion, but over the years this is the third time I've had a problem. The other times I was younger and they never gave it a name.I knew I needed help and I've been waiting for almost a month to get in..My big thing is if she gives me something that will work, not hurt, what I'm already taking..And she was glad I found this forum, so I could talk to everyone about the crohn's..It has helped me so much to know I'm not alone.. I'll be here for quite awhile...

I was going to ask what kind of degree did the person have, that told you about the bipolar?

An assessment interview is rather detailed and it helps tremendously that Ne Ne has insight to her situation and wants to get help.

Ne Ne I hope you find something that can give you alot of help.

brand new research today shows bi-polar is far too often an incorrect DX, so don't panic.

Hi Ne Ne Glad you are feeling not alone and meds are supposed to help bipolar people. Good you went and got some support and help. I figure your therapist is a Dr. and knows alot about bipolar . Wishing you all the best ,as for the meds I don't know about that.lol gail

I think the question about who diagnosed you is important. After an hour and what will they put you on. Don't be afraid to ask questions or get another opinion, remember you are in charge! HUGS!!

Hi Ne Ne,

I agree that who is doing the diagnosing is very important. The meds for bi-polar disorder are heavy duty,...they take a while to kick in and there is usually a trial period to determine the correct dosage....My daughter was suspected of being bipolar. In fact she was diagnosed by one psychiatrist and was on Lithium, which caused her to be very nauseous...and didn't seem to work all that well. She went thru months of increasing, decreasing the dosage until they felt she was stablilized. about one year later, we had to change psychiatrist, and she decided that she wasn't bipolar. She kept her on the meds, but then when she had to have her gallbladder out, she went without them because they were just adding to the nausea too much. She's been off the meds now for over a year and is doing just great. I think the first diagnosis was incorrect. She still takes Celexa(an antidepressant) but is just fine without the lithium. She gained a lot of weight when on the lithium and is having a terrible time taking it off. .....good luck.... I will keep you in my prayers...hopefully all will be better for you very soon. Mary

I've been on antidepressants before...I've had two other episode's in my life...Once when I was 24 and once when I was 38, and I'm almost 50 now, at the time of the other episode's I talked to therapists and psychiatrist..they never said I was bipolar, what was happening at the time in my life they said it was normal, I told the psychiatrist I wanted to kill someone he said that was normal.... It the time I wondered who needed help???? I go back on the 14th and she said it will take awhile.. I think I believe her... only time will tell...

I'd suggest getting your therapist and your GI doc on the phone with each other to make sure you don't have any issues.

Hey Ne Ne,

Do you know what meds your doctor wants to put you on?
Last June I was diagnosed as cyclothymic (a really mild form of BPII) and I was put on lithium with a prozac augmentation. I didn't have any problems with the meds bothering my stomach. I'm not on either of the meds anymore (mainly because I gained 43lbs in a really short period of time and I didn't think they were making a massive amount of difference anyway). My doctor said that if I had problems again I'd probably be put on Epival (Depakote) since regular SSRIs aren't good for mood disorders.

I was diagnosed in an hour meeting with my psychiatrist. I took an extremely thorough history and the meetings that I had with him went really well (I'm very picky with doctors and this doctor was really good at listening and wanted my input with my treatment).
I know BP disorder is the new thing to diagnose people with but I wouldn't distrust your doctor - especially if you've had episodes of mania/hypomainia and depression.

Megera, I don't no what drugs they want to put me on yet...My GI put me on a antidepressant but it was for my crohn's....I'll have to wait and see....I don't take to much that I don't talk to my GI...I trust him...And thats a lot to me...I'll keep everyone posted on what they do..
