Hi Everyone,
Well I am happy to report everything was successful on the removal of my terminal ileum.Surgeon said it was the worst restriction he had ever seen,removed the Cecum,appendix and 8 inches of small intestine.I do have diarhea but hope it will clear up before too long.Have a question for those who have had this surgery,everytime I eat within half an hour I feel an uncomfortable sensation where the ileum used to be,was told it is swollen and is probably normal.

What has been your experiences concerning this?

Hi Michael, you are not very many days out from surgery, any pain that you're getting now, will subside in time.
I surprised at how upbeat you sound!! Well done

Hello Michael,

Isn't it just so special when your Doc says you are something beyond what he has ever seen! ;-) I now really hate it when I am anything but dull and boring!!!

I think things will swell at different times and at different rates. It will take weeks for everything to get in sync and calm down. That said, do not hesitate to pick up the phone and call your Doc. Maybe he/she has a nurse that can explain what you can expect and take the time to listen to what you are experiencing now. Don't think you are bothering them. You paid them good money for their services. Don't hestitate to insist! It is your health!

I totally understand. I just had 10 inches of my ileum removed, as well as my gallbladder. I'm still in a tremendous amount of pain (it was 2 weeks yesterday since I had the surgery)

Seems healing's gonna be a slow process. Thank goodness for percocet!!!!

potty said, "its been 2 weeks" and im still in pain... come on guys, you have had a operation on your body. parts have been removed, pushed around, twisted, cut , stapled, sewn etc... its not instant gratification like life has become. it takes time to heal.

I certainly know that it will take time to heal. I have had two other resections. The pain was so much less after my other resections. I don't even remember needing pain killers when I came home.

Of course, I was 18 years younger then! And, my surgery this time was much more involved. I'm not surprised that I'm in so much more pain this time, just a little impatient I guess. Anyway, had a better day today and look forward to better days ahead.

Randy is right is does take some time to heal. Randy described it very well, your intestines have been cut, moved all around, pulled, pushed etc. I needed someone to remind of that after my first resection, because I was so surprised how after 2-3 weeks I was still hurting so bad. Potty you definetly will notice a difference with age, I definetly did. Hope the surgery was a success for all and leads to a long long remission. Good Luck!

another thing,the more surgeries you have the more scar tissue they have to cut.My surgeon hates to get a consult unless it just avery minor thing.

I had a resection 15 years ago but I still remember how sore the recovery was. Everybody is different but I've done pretty well over the years. No meds at all but constant diarrhea. Don't have a gallbladder either. I think it helps to try, try, try, to be positive. You live for the good days! You eventually figure out what you can eat and what you better stay away from. The surgery should eventually improve the pain and discomfort. Just be prepared for the long term diarrhea......................Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement!Has been 7 days since surgery and other than mild pain when walking or getting up and down feel fairly good.See my surgeon tomorrow to have my 24 staples removed.Should have less discomfort after thet.

Michael, You are amazingly strong. Take care of yourself, you have had major surgery. Stay positive, each day has to get better. I haven't been through this but admire those of you that have and stay so upbeat. Let us know how your removal of staples goes. Stay strong and rely on us for help with getting through this.
