So for a few years before I got diagnosed with crohn's I had problems with mouth ulcers. I would get them constantly and then once I was diagnosed and getting my medication I stopped having them. I get remicade every two months and maybe a week or so before my next infusion is due I start to have maybe some gas or a mouth sore or two will come in. Today I have what seems to be a small one forming on the outside of my lip near the corner. I never have gotten any on the outside...I always have them on the inside so since I've never gotten them outside I can only assume it's from crohn's and not a regular cold sore. So my question is this ; will a normal cold sore treatment like abreva or something do anything to this or should I just let it ride 'til tomorrow when I get my remicade? Whenever I get remicade any sores I have inside clear up pretty much right away so I think this would do the same. Any more experienced opinions?

Abreva is meant to treat the herpes virus associated with cold sores. Mouth ulcers are aphthous ulcers and not associated with the H. virus. For internal cancer (mouth/aphthous) sores, I use aphthasol which is a prescript
ion creme.
Like you I also have more cancer (mouth) sores while in a flare. If my Crohn's is under control, I rarely get them.

These mouth ulcers are treatable with the presciption products or with folic acid or lysine. Try one at a time see which works for you or just ask your doc for a script
of something. (by the way I dont think sr5599 ment cancer probably canker).

Well, I got them when my Remicade quit working. Now I'm on Humira haven't had one. I used a dental paste that my dentist prescribed, dried them up and worked wonders.

One of my biggest issues is mouth ulcers. I was diagnosed with severe Crohns and we are working towards some type of remission. Though my other sympotms have minimized (diarrhea, arthritis, stomach aches, nauseau-I know, I know I misspell this word ever time without fail) the mouth ulcers have continued. My PCP gave me a mixture she made which consists of Maalox, Lidocaine and Decadron......something since I have gotten them so bad twice they not only were in my mouth but my throat and tonsils. The only problem is that it is not a long term solution and I freak out using it becuase of the Decadron and I am scared my teeth will fall out even quicker since I am also on Prednisone.

I used Kenalog in orabase or orapaste. I hope this helps. Sounds less scary than what you are being prescribed.

Kenalog in orabase works very well. It is a prescript
ion. Humira has made my constant mouth sores pretty much disappear. I used to get many, many at a time and rarely had a day without at least 4. Now, none.

Oh so glad to hear it helped you too. It is a prescript
ion, but I think your dentist knowing your background would prescribe it for you. Just take it at the end or the night when your done drinking and eating and it dries it out.
