Thanks Doc, that was very interesting. I've heard about Viagra for treating crohns before, but never really understood it's use.
So at least that was clarified for me. Lets hope this could be a real break through!!

Not wanting to be pessimistic, but the article was written in 2/06. If it were a valid theory it seems like they would have advanced it and we would have read more about it. Also, I thought Viagra had not panned out in Crohn's. I could certainly be wrong! I'd love to think they were "on to it!"!!!!

Wasn't, isn't, it Tysabri or is it Leukine, that was developed on the theory that our immune systems are insufficient rather than the more common theory that is it over-active? Talk about two conflicting theories!!!

That would be Leukine. It failed in the trials.

I tried to get into a leukine trial, but they were already done.  I've wondered about off-label, though... 

Yes, two completely opposing theories.  One to boost the immune system, the other to nearly kill it.  makes me wonder...  I hope that the stem cell theories can pan out.  It would be great to think that there were a way to re-set the immune system.  if the theory of autoimmune is correct...  But, it's what I hold my hope for.  This suppressing the immune system stinks.

the problem with the immune sytem is that it is both too strong and too weak.

our immune system regulates itself through a myriad of chemical pathways that tell it when and what defense to switch on, and when to turn it off. i suspect people with crohn's are simply dysregulated.
