I've been doing reading on 6Mp here in the forum, but I find that often people don't mention what dose they are on. I am taking 75mg right now and considering going to 100mg. I get blood tests right now and my white count is normal, hemo is 110 and iron is almost 0 due to bleeding. I can't tolerate iron pills. I started 20mg prednisone today.

Anyway, I remember there used to be an ask the doctor section on the CCFA website and he used to say that the therapeutic dose for 6MP is 1.5 mg/kg for 6MP and 2.5mg/kg for Imuran. I am about 62kg, so that would put me at 100mg.

Does this does sound reasonable? Seems to me that most times when people do mention their dose it's 50mg of 6MP or 50 to 100 of Imuran.

Hi Mike,

My son is on 50 mg of 6MP even though his dose should be 100 mg taking his weight into consideration. He did go up to 100 mg at one point, but his liver started complaining, so he was dropped back down to 50 mg. His bloodwork through Promethius showed that 50 mg was okay for him.

6pm dosage all depends on your weight.

i actually started out at 25mgs, then 50, 75 and we are looking to 100mgs next for me. i need to get some health insurance things figured out before i start my bloodwork so i am staying at 75mgs for now. i weigh 106 lbs (48 kgs if i am correct?) but my gi said my body seems to metabolize the 6mp rather quickly and i am still on the low end of the therapeutic spectrum. has your gi done a tng level to see if you are at a therapeutic level yet?

I'm on 50mg 6MP currently but my doctor just did a Prometheus test last week to see if I'm even at a therapeutic dosage or not.  If not, we will either up it or stop it altogether, due to the risks associated with taking it and a biological at the same time.  BTW, I weigh right until 150.

My doctor did to a test to see how I metabolize it and he said I'm int he therapeutic range, but he said he's comfortable going higher as well.

i've been on 6mp for a little over 6 months now. it has helped but i am still not in remission (whatever that is!). i am better since being on it, but i still take percocet for pain and still have d 8-10 times on a bad day. he is a bit concerned putting me on a higher dose but this is our last attempt at 6mp. hope you have good luck with it!

Ya that would put you at 2mg/kg, which is probably around the upper limit. Don't give up on it though, maybe it will put you over the top and into remission. Perhaps another drug will have to put you in remission while the 6MP can keep you there.

I started on 50 mg 6MP and went up to 75mg after four weeks. I get blood tests done each fortnight. I weigh about 55kg so 100mg sounds reasonable for you.

So now I know my doctor screwed up and didn't know what he was doing.  I went from 50 to 100 to 150 and within a few weeks was in the hospital for 11 days with bone marrow suppression.  I always did have a fear of this drug, now I know why.  By the way he is no longer my doctor.

I was wondering about the weight to dosage of 6MP and found this thread from last May. I am interested in what everyone's dose and weights are. I have lost 35 pounds since starting 6MP and would like to drop down to 50mg but my doctor won't hear of it. My Promethus test showed high risk to liver and low effectivness. My liver enzymes are still fine so he says we don't need to reduce. It did put me in remission but I'd rather take the smallest amount possible to stay in remission. I'd love to know other's weights and dosages.

Hello,

Weight is just a general target. The real test is how efficient your body is at metabolizing the drug. Your rate of metabolism determines how much you need to take in order to get in the therapeutic dose range. I am taking less than 1.5 mg/kg but I am in the therapuetic dose range.

FallColors has it. Weight gives you the range to start from, but the blood work really shows if that is right for you. I was on 75mg most of the time (130lbs). They attempted 100mg for a while, but didn't like the blood work results.
