What is the youngest age for CD??

How old does CD usually show up in children??

I'm freaking out a little here this morning.  I just changed my son's diaper and there was blood in his stool.

He's only 2.   I'm constanly looking and keeping an eye on him because of me having CD.  I'm wondering

if I should let my GI know about this???

Usually it doesn't show up until adolescence or early adulthood but I have heard of a six month old having it.

I'm a Pediatric RN and the youngest that I have heard of was a 3 y.o.  There is a huge increase in Pediatric Chrohns cases.We are watching my 8 y.o also,he has stomach issues sometimes,cramping.... keeping my fingers crossed.  BUT,there are quite a few reasons why kids can have blood in their diaper,food intolerances,viruses,hard stools...so try to stay positive,although I know it can be worrisome,always a Mom's job to worry :-)

Thank you!! I will definitely keep an eye on it. His stool wasn't hard although he was pushing pretty hard.
Hoping it was nothing... Yes mom's job to worry!!! LOL :-)

Hello, it is not very common but CD could appear in babies, there is a case here in Brazil of a little girl - she is now 15 years - but she had her firsts symptoms with 5 months, she had her colon removed with 3, her Crohn is very very agressive and is far away of being a pattern of this disease, but it could happen...

LBJ... honey, I know how much you worry and freak out at the least little sign of CD. I have two daughters who are fully grown...but I did the very same thing with their poo-poos.... even as they were growing up, the minute they said , I have a sore tummy, my first question would always be " are you poopin".... next time you go, let me have a look.... they are now 18, and 19 and I still have the same reaction and first question although they are not letting me have a 'look' anymore.
But I do have a new grandaughter .... she is soon to be 7 months old...... and she farts like a trooper. I'm thinking , Lord that can't be normal. I think my daughter , although she won't admit it... is wondering and worrying about CD also... everytime the baby has a 'different ' looking poop.... she asks me what could be causing it.... so we go through the litany of possibilities.... we always come up with a common sense reason.... change of formula, or green beans for dinner....
but I surely understand your concerns. My son in law also has type 1 diabetes which is another big worry... he was diagnosed at 5 yrs old. Our baby girl always has sweaty hands and feet... so we worry about that too.
I think as moms and grandmas we worry about everything anyway....but when there is chronic disease in the family, its naturally at the forefront of our worries all the time.

My 2.5 year old was diagnosed in January (at 2 years old). It is very rare in children this young. I would just watch it and see if the blood continues. It could just be constipation or it could be something like food allergies. Are the stools formed or watery?  My daughter was diagnosed after months of loose, bloody diapers. I would ask your son's pediatrician if they think it's worth seeing a pediatric GI.
