hellow everyone, I have not been her in quite a while. I hope everyone is doing well. I have been in remission for aver a year. :) I have been suffering with gyno problems during that year and last week had a hysterectomy. (not so much fun) After my surgery I was in incredible pain, and the doctor had ordred a anti inflammitory for me along with the morphine that I was receiving. . It started with the letter "T" but the moment the moment I can not remember the name. THe Doctor had all my past history and medical conditions so I can not believe that he ordered it for me. I told the nurse that I could not take it because of my chrons, and she said that i already had 2 doses of it without my knowledge. During the day two nurses tried to give me the same medication after I said that I could not have it!!!!  I asked a nurser to call my doctor for another alternative, I even suggested prednisone. (my husbands response to that wass that I must of been in a awful lot of pain to even suggest the "devil drug" as I so fondely call it.) He said that there was no alternative and I suffered through the pain, doing my lamaze breathing. Last night I woke up with EXTREME pain and cramping and D. Now I am worried that there might be a connection to the anti - imflammitory. Could this be sending me into a flare. I will call my gastro on Monday morning but just wondering if any body thinks this might be happening. I also with be seeing surgeon that did the hysto on Monday. Looking back I should have called my gastro for alternatives to anti- inflammitory before surgery. I am just praying that I am not going back into flare. I would appreciate any thoughts.

It could have possibly triggered it or could even be from the trauma of surgery. I would go ahead and call your GI and get his thoughts. Good luck and hope you getting feeling better soon.

Hi Hope you get to feeling better soon. We can take tylenol when sick I cain't think of anything else that starts with T.Best Wishes for a good recovery. lol gail

Oh my. I feel like I am reading a post, I could have written. I had a bowel obstruction in Oct. and ended up in an out of town hospital for five days. I remember two different GI's asking if I had taken Ibuprofen. I said yes. I had my period this week and took several doses over the past few days. Both of them said that could have caused the flare that led to the obstruction. I too had a hysterectomy last week. I had morphine post-op and when they took me off of it, I had terrible headaches and nausea. I had taken a dose of Vicoden but when it would wear off, I would get a horrible headache and the nurses kept bringing the super dose of Motrin. I kept telling them that I am not supposed to take it and they kept saying, a few days won't bother me. Since, they wouldn't give me anything else for pain, I reluctantly took them. Now that I am home and BMs have returned, I am having lots of D and I am pretty sure I am headed into a flare.

Noulls, How bizare that you also had a hysterectomy last week. Hope you are recovering ok. I have a Dr. Apt with the Gyno this morning and I will ask him the name of the anti inflammitoy that they all tried to give me. (and gave me in the OR) I was also on a moorphine pump, that only took the edge off. Are you still taking pain medication, I took my last dose last night before bed and am in alot of pain this morning. I took 3 extra strenght tylenol, if it does not cut it I will ask for a refill. Any way I am having extreme cramping and D. I really do think that a flare is on its way. I will call my GI when theoffice opens opens. Please let me know how you are recovering.How much motrin did you take? Did you have a total hysterectomy? d

Could the medication have been Tramadol? I know that is a pain/anti-inflammatory type med.  But I don't think it is in the same class as Ibruprofen.  I know some folks with Crohns use that, I know I can't because it upsets my stomach.  Just fyi Hydrangea, I too have had a complete hysterectomy (about 10 years ago), best thing I ever did.  My periods would make me miserable for about 3 weeks out of every month.  Now I take my little Estrogen pill everynight and no more hormonal problems.

No not Tramedol,

I have taken the slow release form before, so that was not it. Thanks for your relpy!

Hydrangea I am recovering pretty well and I am not having too much pain. I am weak however and sleeping terribly. I just can't seem to find a comfortable sleeping position. I am taking an occasional super strength tylenol. The Vicoden was leaving me with a drugged feeling and some bizarre dreams so I stopped that. Thinking about taking Ambien tonight to help with sleeping. I am hoping that have the hyst. will improve my CD symptoms - however not likely. At least I will be period free (I'm 39 and would have had many years to go). I had uterus and cervix removed, left my ovaries intact. When I had pain and cramping in my pelvis before, I never knew if it was CD or gynec. problems. I guess, if the cramping returns, I will know now.

I think that I took 800 mg. ibuprofen three times while I was in the hospital. I am waiting on friend to pick me up and take me to lunch. I am anxious to get out of my house. I am hoping to drive myself tomorrow. The doctor won't see me until 6 weeks post-op and said I could drive when I was off pain meds and could move my feet easily back and forth when driving.

Noulls, Wow incredible how are stories are the same!!!! HAd my cervix and uterus removed as well and also left my ovaries. Was having incredible pelvic pain, once in remission from chrons that ruled out that the pain was from cd. I also had endrometriosis and adenomyosis. Hope the pain finally goes away and I can return to a normal PAIN FREE LIFE. I just came back from the gyno and he said everything was healing great. My Husband and family have been great during all of this. I hope you have a great support system as well. He did say to contact my GI regarding the D, and severe pain because the anti infalmmitory could cause a flare. (dId not get into shy he ordered it for me, but just aske him if it was on my chart now that I can not have it. He told me to make sure that it is also on my id bracelet.) I think I will wait it out a little longer, so to avoid any prednisone. I am a little older than you (turned 44 the day before surgery).
I also can not sleep at night very difficult to get comfortable, ambian is probably a great idea. ANy way, keep in touch would like to know if your pelvic pain does indeed go away for you finally. Have a great lunch with your fried. It was nice for me to get out as well, even if it was to the Drs. LOL

Hydrangea, do you happen to have problems with low iron levels too? I take 6-MP and it makes already low levels drop lower, however not low enough for doctors to do anything about it. Just leaves me tired a lot.

Noulls, No, no problem with lows iron levels at all!! And the only meds that I take for chrons becaue I am in remission is pentasa. Keep me posted on how you are recovering and for sure if your pelvic pain does or does not improve. It will be interesting to see if both our pain improves.
