Bad rash

  OK, so the preperation H is not working, nor is the 4 different ointments, the peroxide or any other thing that has been tried on me. Someone told me to use vinegar but I think all that would do is make me smell like a pickle. The rash on my arm is worse than ever. I am on my way back to the skin doc this morning but I have no great expectations. I even thought it may be one of my meds but I have not started a new one in the time frame of the rash. Needs some help here. Anyone have a rash ?? Noooo not a rash of @#%$.. We all get those, a skin rash. Maybe I just dont heal anymore. Maybe one of the mice they squeezed remicade juice from had mange.....

I was given a new med ( in Canada anyways LOL) called Protopic

For me it helped with the rash I had not the PG but rash........

I sure hope you find something as I know how much of a pain in the keister they can be

Lyn,,,No rash on my keister,,thank goodness. JJJ I've tried benadryl. Haven't tried a zink ointment yet CP. Well Doc did another biopsy(third one) so at this rate the whole rash should be surgically removed in a year or so leaving my arm looking somewhat like the face of the moon.. Yep, its the pits.. I have to wait a week for results now. She says it may be crohns related but she has doubts. Also could be a med but she wants to rule out some things first. Does this sound familiar ? I almost croaked from heart blockage while the doctors played,,I think its crohns,,lets run another test. Anyway until the test results,,,DONT SCRATCH IT !!!! Ohhhhhhh Yeah,, thats great advice. What am I suppose to do ? I scratch in my sleep and gloves dont stop me, I take them off in my sleep. By the way, have i missed something on the news ? Is there a band-aid shortage ? She chopped a hole about the size of a dime in my arm and then put a band-aid about the size of a match head on it. I'm bleeding like a stuck pig and the liitle bandage just floats off so they stuck another one just like it on and sent me home. Good thing I keep a first aid kit in my truck. You know what,, smelling like a pickle may not be that bad...

Hi Sniper Have you tried calamine lotion it is suppose to be good for releaving itch caused by chicken pox and things like that. Mangie are you. Gotta giggle Sniper at that one. Tell us more about your rash where is it ,how big ,and what does it look like. I did have a rash awhile ago and had to go off the Imuran. Do hope you can get yourself under control . Been wandering how you been doing. lol gail

I had rem less than 2 weeks ago but have had this rash well over 4 months.Mostly on my right forearm but I do have a few small spots on an elbo and on a thigh. The one on the arm is almost from elbo to wrist now but only on the top of the arm. it starts out as a small spot about dime size with very small bumps . This is when it itches the worse. Then the small bumps become welts and after a week or so start to go away . Thats when the whole thing starts anew next to the old one and then back in the same place. Calamine dried it out and made it itch more so I put something on it ever time it itches. Sad to say, preperation H did the best but even that did not last. It just keeps spreading. Guess I will have to wait for the biopsy to come back. Red mange is contagious and people do catch it. I have no pets and have not been near any animals ( no VV gators dont have mange)so I doubt it is that but deep down inside I cant help but woder what the h---- this is. I hate the thought of allergy tests. Wheres the vinegar ????

Sniper: Go to the pharmacist and ask for Claritin and ..... an OTC gut burn med starts with a P I think. I was thinking Prilosec but not sure.

Seriously, ask about getting Claritin (which is an antihistamine A) and the other is an antihistamine B. Together they made a difference the time I had the whole body burning rash and swelling. They took the symptoms down quite a bit. The only thing that completely kicked it out of me was a bout of prednisone for two weeks.

And Snipe...mine was not related to meds, food, new soaps or anything else they asked about. They insist it was a viral reaction. I still do not know exactly what caused it, but I expect it will rear its ugly head again as I have had a few bouts like this. I think it has to be auto immune

The anti-histamines are your best bet. I would guess that the rash is a result of your gut mast cells reacting to some damage there. There are a number of reports of mast cells at the site of some damage activating remote mast cells and causing damage in a place completely unconnected to the initial site of damage. One of the agents that the mast cells produce is histamine which would cause a rash. Mast cells are believed to be responsible for allergic reactions (red eyes, runny nose, cough and of course rashes and itching generally). Mast cells are also involved in the progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis and there may be a connection between Crohn's and the development of RA in Crohn's patients. Of course the perfect solution would be to cure your Crohn's.......

I just think Sniper has COOTIES~Everyone quick, cross your fingers so he doesn't pass them on to you! Just kidding Sniper, I couldn't help myself, you must be rubbing off on me:)LOL

Seriously though I agree with the antihistamines. At least that will help to ease the itchiness. Hope you get rid of this icky rash soon. Good luck!

Cooties,,hmmm, thats a possibility, but if there are cooties in my skin they must be after my blood. Ha Ha, the jokes on them. To bad I cant handle a week long bender. Then they would all get pie eyed and fall off.

Took 'em nearly a freakin' year to diagnose my psorasis! It's viral, it's fungal, it's the rash of the week! Where's the prize? Finally, I found a derm with a brain! Of course he came from the Mayo Clinic! What luck I stumbled across on that one! I have to use the strongest steriod cream they make during outbreaks and of course a maintenance cream as needed. I will note that the "rash" began at my weakest skin point...my healing incision from the resect. Hang in there Sniper! If you find a solution, let us know. Lately, I have developed an aggressively itchy area at the base of the left side of my nose. No rash or dryness, just itches like the devil for about an hour and comes and goes at will. Weird! Frustrating to me however because I am very conscience about not "handling" my face because of fear of transmission of germs to my nose & mouth. Especially since I work in a medical environment. Maybe Nanners is right and you gave me the cooties! I vote you take a soaking bath in vodka....no sneaking a snort though!

When you get a chance Google "pyoderma gangrenosum". I've had it on and off for about 15 years. Because it is a rare skin disorder, it is often misdiagnosed. There is a connection with PG to Crohn's patients. If it is PG, all the remedies posted here by well meaning forum members won't help at all. I had to deal with it for 3 long years before the 3rd dermatologist I saw figured it out. Go online and check Pyoderma Gangrenosum out. You just might have it.

A bit late, but there is a possibility that you can help the problem with plain old vitamin E. I read that vitamin E reduces the trigger immune globulin that sets off the mast cells which cause the rash. At least it is a harmless thing to try and it deals with the cause and not just the symptoms.

I really dont think its PG. It only makes sore if I scratch it too much. Mostly its just a ,,,son of an itch...
