What on earth is happening to me?

Okay...where to begin?

If any of you have any idea what this might be please, any advice is welcome. I'm trying to call the GI office but can't get hold of any real people right now, and I need answers.

I've been on a liquid diet for nearly two weeks now because ANY solid food is excruciatingly painful to pass through my system. I even tried very soft, mashed up baby food and still had trouble. It especially hurts when it hits the lower abdominal area, and I can hear my body making angry noises.

Right now my stool just looks like blood and/or a lot of very dark particles; probably from the ensure and boost energy drinks I'm using just to get calories in my body.

The only thing keeping me able to do anything is the ultracet painkillers I am taking every 6 hours.

I can barely get my fluids down and I'm just passing it anyway...I can only stay awake for about 2-4 hours a day and the rest is spent sleeping or losing more blood and fluid. I'm 5'5 and down to about 95 pounds. I'm just very concerned and wondering if any of you have gone through this and know what it sounds like. I'm thinking maybe a stricture or...I'm not even sure. All I know is that I am STARVING and can barely function(even talking is difficult. don't even get me started on walking just to the bathroom...). I'm just very afraid right now and am exhausted almost already just from sitting up writing this. Please, any input would be appreciated. I'm tired of being in pain and my next appointment is still a week away.

If I had a way to get there believe me. But it doesn't help that the doctors are just telling me to wait. They've already performed a variety of tests and are simply telling me to wait and see if I can get on humira. If I don't get an answer by tomorrow then I have no choice but to go into the ER(yet again...).

They prescribed pentasa and alinia in addition to my prednisone this past weekend, and I swear I think it's made it worse.

I agree with Sugarmarie, I think you need to just head to the ER. One you sound as if you are getting anemic, that could explain the fatigue and I am really concerned about the blood loss. Also, if you aren't able to keep anything in you are in risk of getting dehydrated. And yes there could possibly be a stricture. Please do not wait any longer, go ahead and go to the ER. I will keep you in my prayers and please keep us updated.

Is there a voicemail option at the GI's office for people who have an emergency? That might get you a live person. Or at least, leave another message saying that you believe you need to be admitted to the hospital today, and can they make the arrangements. If you can get a hold of them, that might be easier for you than sitting in a waiting room at the ER since they could arrange for you to be admitted directly. But if there's no way of arranging that, I agree that you may need to call an ambulance. It sounds like you're very seriously ill, and this is too much to handle it home. BTW, the dark particles in the stool might be blood from another portion of the intestinal tract (as opposed to the red of fresher blood).

you should be on IV steroids. it sounds sucky, but it will at least make you feel better. you'll probably not be able to take anything by mouth at all, but you can be sustained on IV dextrose, and if you're in pain, ask for pain meds. they'll understand...i was getting 2mg of dilautid every 3hr for the two weeks i was in the hospital...no one is going to judge you.

I know everyone's been saying this, but you really should get to the ER. Can you ask a neighbor, call a cab, family, anyone to take you? I don't drive so I know the frustration of needing to get somewhere and not having a ride. While you're not the average ambulance patient I would call an ambulance if all else fails. You are in serious condition...I know when I get really bad I still don't feel like I should bother to get an ambulance, but you're bleeding, feeling faint, can hardly walk...just because you might not be in a car accident or whatever you're bad enough for an ambulance. You really need treatment ASAP and don't listen to your GI docs if they tell you to wait it out! I'm not nearly as bad as you, but have been waiting it out for weeks now, but when I get really bad I find a way to the ER and every time I've needed to be hooked up to IVs and stuff. Will be thinking of you. Please keep us updated when you get a chance. *hugs*

Hope you've already gone in to the ER, you sound pretty bad off. Bleeding is nothing to fool around with trust me. When I started bleeding it all went down very quickly, suddenly I lost A LOT of blood. Hope you got this all checked out.

...here's hoping you're not reading any of this because you're at the hospital and at least getting pain meds for your belly...and being supervised by a team that has a plan to get you started on some serious solumedrol!

I agree with everyone else get to the ER now! I had the same symptoms and went to the ER two times in a week but refused (I told you Crohnie's are stubborn lol) to be admitted. By the the third visit I was SO sick I didn't have a choice and was in the hospital for a week. PLEASE go now before it gets any worse!

I got out of the hospital today finally--went in to the ER on Tuesday morning.
They gave me plenty of fluids, intravenous steroids, a blood transfusion, and PLENTY of painkillers.
Things are a lot better now, but I still am having stomach pains on and off. I have to say that they are nothing compared to what I was going through and I'm just happy to be able to eat solid food again.
The only issue I have right now is very burred vision and headache so..it might be from one of the new medicines prescribed, but all in all I am doing much better.

Here is to getting better. I have 12 days to get back enough strength so I can go to school. We'll see how walking to class is..

Hi LMills! Thanks for letting us know. Glad you are finally feeling better! I hope you have an excellent GI at school who knows CD. Don't be bashful about running to the Doc or ER. Problems caught early are easier and take less time to resolve. I hope this is the last problem you will have for a good long time!! Take care.
