on a totally unrelated subject

got some very very good news today and i just had to share.

today in the mail i got the results of the civil engineering exam i took in april. it is a scantron exam. and like i said, the results came in the mail today. so good news - i passed! i am now a registered professional civil engineer in california. california tacks on 2 other exams on top of the national exam making it a lot harder to get certified. and i am not a civil engineer by vocation, so this exam was a lot harder for me than most people, and even harder when you consider all the problems with crohn's disease on top of that. but a lot of good this credential does me now though. i also hold a bs in environmental engineering and a ms in chemical & environmental engineering yet the only job i can get pays $6.55/hr. go figure. thanks arnold. talk about time well spent... (ok, that last bit is sarcasm)

i currently work for the state of california. job security rules - i suspect i could burn the place down and not get fired. but since the state budget was due on july 1 and has yet to be signed, the governator (arnold schwarzenegger for those of you not in california) has decided that all state employees shall be paid federal minimum wage, which is $6.55/hr, until the budget is signed. so like over 200,000 people are caught in the middle of a political power play to make the 2 parties come to an agreement and get the budget signed. i could be making more money right now working at starbucks or mcdonalds cos california state minimum wage is $8/hr. funny to note that the economy of california is in the top 10 of economies in the world (yes, one state of the USA has an economy that big) and we're facing something like a $15 billion shortfall. but that is nothing compared to what bush has done to the US in regards to budget deficit. he's reported to have broken his record budget deficit he set 2 years ago. now that is an accomplishment. especially since he was able to do this going from a record surplus upon entering office like 7 years ago.

ha ha ha - i'm over qualified to work for the dmv. plus they dont do engineering. federal minimum wage is less than state minimum wage, hence $6.55 vs $8 per hour. i would rather not discuss how much i truly do make at my job, but it is a very good sum of money for what i do and how hard i work. the perks are good and it is low stress and pressure. total opposite of school. the state has been good to me in regards to being able to work with CD and the accompanying health problems, especially from all i went through 2 years ago with multiple surgeries and looking at a colostomy.

Very impressive. Both my husband and I come from a families of engineers, and we both have engineering degrees. He however actually uses his. So I understand how hard all of your degrees are to work for. Good Job.
