My doctor would like to start me on Imuran come September and I wanted to know, for those of you who have been or are on it, what your experience has been. I'm a little bit nervous about starting it because of the possible side effects and what it may do while I am attending school so any information/personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello,I have been on Imuran for about three years now,and it has been a God send!! Trust me,I fought my GI tooth and nail to start it because I was SO nervous,but I'm so glad I did.Before Imuran EVERY morning,I would be nauseated and gag ,shortly after starting it,I have not done that since (knock on wood) It also caused my inflammation to go down.

I know that it's an immunosuppresant....have you had any more difficult fighting off regular colds or anything? That's great to hear it's worked well for you!! I hope I have the same results :)

Hello, I have been on Imuran for about a year now and the side effects that I have dealt with have been my joints stiffening, fatigue and also the fact that Imuran is a immune suppressant so I was getting sick with colds easily. I took probiotics to help my immune system. Well good luck, wish you the best:)

The only side-effect I've had is fatigue but that could very well be from the disease itself. I just had my second Remicade infusion so I'm hoping that the combo works better than just the Imuran. Good Luck-and it really isn't as scary as it sounds.

I had slight nausea when I first started it for a couple of weeks. I usually take mine a night before bed. Sometimes it would give me a migraine, however, I am prone to various kinds of those anyway. Because of these side effects for me is why I take it at night so I sleep through it. Otherwise it has been a GODSEND!
Took about 4 months to get in my system good and the GI says if I EVER miss my bloodwork, she'll snatch me off it in a heartbeat!

I had severe nausea for 2 months with it. lost a lot of weight (which i was actually glad for). but now it's mellowed out and I'm glad I'm on it. Oh, and it also made a lot of my hair fall out. For a while I was brushing out big handfuls. i don't think it's a miracle drug for me, but it has definitely kept me out of the hospital. I guess I can't ask for much more!

I have been on imuran for approx.6 years.I didn t want to take it initially but my doctors wouldnt give me the remicade that I needed when my fistulas opened unless I took imuran again.To tell you the truth my fistulas kept opening up when I was just on imuran and I believed then as I do now that it was only the remicade that would help close them.So I am still on imuran 150mg a day(my doctors wanted to take it to 200mg which I did but dropped back to 150).I don t think I have any side affects and surprisingly as you said being an immunosuppressant I am amazed that I don t get flu s and colds that easy even when the whole family around me has a bug.

I've been on Azasan (Imuran) since the end of February. about the time it felt like it was making a difference, I missed five days in a row (I ran out while on a trip. Stupid, stupid, stupid). So now I'm wondering if it's going to take another four months to start helping again. :(

Anyway, I have had the exact opposite reaction of being on so many immunosuppressants: I used to get an upper respiratory infection just about every month during the winter, and about every six weeks during the summer. I haven't had an URI since March. That's a record for me. I'm 41, and have *never* gone that long without a sore throat. I'm still taking everything in my sig, with the addition of 25 mg/day of pred, and I'm still not getting sick.

I have been on it 6 yrs. I think I did have a headache for the first week and that went away. Also, it can cause nausea, therefore, my gi said to take it at bedtime and I have not once had any nausea from it. Susie

side effects for me: I can eat almost anything, no D, no C, rarely any gut pain, hair fell out (came back mostly), sometimes my hands and feet swell. It has given me my life back.

I have been on Azathioprine for several years now at 150mg/day. It has kept me going now for all that time. I'm afraid I would be in very bad condition without it. I've not had side effects. there are many, some deadly, but all in all, so is Crohn's!

I have been on it for about 1 month now and feel like a new person. That being said, I am totally paranoid about cold and flu season this year.
