My Mayo update...

Hey buds, haven't posted in a while. Long story short, I'm still in Mayo lala land but they have confirmed that I at least have gastroparesis (symptoms of which include nausea, vomiting, and constipation - NONE of which I have - but also malabsorption and weight loss, which I have had). No lactose intolerance, no small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Infectious disease doc wants to wait until my gastro tests have been completed before doing anything but said chronic malaria infection is a distinct possibility causing the high fevers and to go to their ER next time the big 104 hits (best chance to catch the darn parasites on a PCR test). GI will probably double-scope again sometime in September. Ickity ick ick.

Their clinical research team asked me to participate in a study. They are using a new diagnostic tool, sort of like the PillCam but actually a Pill "sensor" that detects the pH, temperature, and other factors as it travels through your digestive system. Of course I will do anything I can in the name of advancing science so will hopefully be able to participate. I think it's called the Smart Pill? Will tell more as I find out more about it.

Yo, Sarita! I just got "the" call from Mayo (MN) today. *sigh*  Appointment w/gyn/onco I like, the gastro & a colorectal 20 Oct and 24-31 Oct the in-house Smoking Cessation program and the surgeries the following week. IF I don't chicken out!!!!

Your mention of this clinical trial for the "smart pill" sounds quite fascinating. Do you know is this expected to be really beneficial for Crohn's disease or for unknown intestinal disorders or for a myriad of disorders? I'll have to remember to ask about it when I get to Mayo.

Are you at the Mayo in MN or one of the other two?

I'm from Minnesota too, have been to the Mayo, and am also curious about this "Smart Pill". If you post more info. sometime that would be great.
