colonoscopy prep advice

Has anyone tried the pills instead of the drinks for colonoscopy prep?  I know its alot of pills but i think it would be better than the drinks-I hate them.  Any other adice that would help me prep would be appreciated!!! blush

There is suppose to be a pleasant orange flavored prep (I've no experiance with it)...I just use what my GI asks and that's the 45ml of phospho, yes it's gross but if you only mix 1/3 of it with a full glass of clear pop (doing this 3X in total to get one 45ml bottle down) you will not taste it near what you would doing it any other way...and then I'm instructed to take 4 Dulcolax tabs a few hours after finishing with the phospho soda.

I take a whole bottle of miralax and mix it into a big 64oz of gatorade and then drink a cup every 1/2 hour until it's gone. Then I take 2 tablets of dulcolax. works like a charm. and it doesn't taste bad at all. Just hope you like gatorade...

I have used the pills 3 times. I've done well with it. It's not so much the pills but all the water you have to drink with it. You just get that very bloated feeling for a while. I can't tolerate the mixes at all so the pills have been a great alternative for me. When ever I have to do my pre I usually eat a very light diet for several days just to make the process a little easier on me. I eat lots of mashed potatoes & pasta noodles and drink lots of water and gatorade. I have a tendency to get major dehydrated following the prep.

That's why I prefer the Magnesium Citrate or the PhosphoSoda (altho I've never been instructed to take more than 30 mls of the PS).

That way I can BE SURE to DRINK ENOUGH liquids to prevent or reduce dehydration that are NOT foul tasting sewer water. I'd rather drink lots of water and good tasting clear liquids than lots of foul tasting sewer water. After drinking that much sewer water who has room in their gut to drink any more liquids???? I always drink MORE clear liquids after the PS or Mag Cit than my instructions insist upon and drink those clear liquids right up until my NPO time which is almost always midnight since I insist on a first thing in the morning scope. I refuse anything later than second scope of the morning (my gastro ALWAYS runs late, even for her first scope of the day. We're kindred spirits, we'll both be late for our own funerals - except I'm never late for my scopes 'cause I want the d*mn thing done and over with!).

I have to second the vote for Miralax with Gatorade. It really isn't bad AT ALL... it doesn't have the texture or the flavor of the other preps I've tried. Just Miralax and a couple Dulcolax and I'm good to go, so to speak. :-)

At first I was so excited when my doctor gave me the RX for Osmoprep instead of having to do the gross liquid. That ended once I started taking the pills. After the first two doses I started gagging trying to get the pills down. I have never had problems taking pills. Maybe it's just all the water, I don't know. Call me crazy but I would rather do the liquid. The last couple times I've just taken it like a shot and then drank afterward. It is a lot easier to get a shot down than a whole glass.

I've done three different preps for my 'scopes. The first was the pills, which worked fairly well, but didn't totally clean me out, so the doc wasn't able to see all that well. Next was the phospho, which made me throw up, which reduced it's effectiveness (imagine that, a medicine that doesn't work if you throw it up!). This last one was the Dulcolax/Miralax prep. I'm not sure if I did something wrong, although what that could be is a mystery, it is a pretty straight forward method. Anyway, my prep began Tuesday night, the scope was yesterday, and I've still got the runs today. I was up all Tuesday night with explosive movements, eventually ended up staying on can all night after the third accident. Still had some darn urgent movements yesterday and today. although they are much more manageable today. I took tomorrow off from work because I don't want to risk any accidents at work...they can handle me going to bathroom all the time, but not making it to the john might be a little much.

 I have only had to have one of these treats in my life and I honestly have not experienced anything more annoying before or since. God bless

you all who have had to endure more than one. I am however grateful that mt doc decided to to an endoscopy at the same time....it was discovered that I have barretts, though it is not at a serious point right now. Enjoy a pleasant evening....Anne
