Good news! I have been smoke free for 3 days and barely any cravings. If any of you want to quit smoking-I would recommend Chantix.

I second the Chantix. I have been smoke free for months.

I really didnt believe it would work. A pill that would MAKE you not want to smoke.

It does. After a week and half of taking it I had NO desire to smoke AT ALL. Actually the smell of it made me a little sick.

Well done that's fantastic.  Is chantix available in Europe do you know.  I would love to give up smoking but I just love them too much......

Congratulations on the smoke free. that's fantastic. Are you in U.S. or Canada?  Just wondering if Chantix is available in Can. My husband has been trying to quit for ages.  Says he can't.  Maybe this would work for him. 

Have your Dr.'s told you about smoking and CD?  I don't smoke, but my Dr. freaks out if i am around smoke.  2 years ago i had my second re-section.   the Dr.'s were all talking to me just before they released me and giving the usual talk when my husband walked in to pick me up.  he must have just had a smoke before he came in.  Well, when the Dr.'s caught a wiff of him they went crazy.  They kept going on about smoking and CD  and second hand smoke and CD.  My husband felt terrible.   I had no idea.  Nobody said anything before.  Anyone else heard this?

Wow congradulations on your quitting. Yes I have heard that second hand smoke can trigger a flare. lol gail

Friend of mine gave up with chantix as well and loved them. They are definitely availablei n Ireland :)

This stuff is amazing. I liked smoking very much until I started taking these pills. Don't get me wrong-I wanted to quit, but was pretty hesitant if these pills would really help. Just one week after starting them I quit totally (on day 4 now) and I am not even really having urges to smoke. It's great! And all the money I save! I would definitely recommend trying (what's the worst that could happen?)

I don't know if these are available in Europe or Canada (sorry!). Also, my doctor said it wouldn't interact with any other meds that I'm currently taking. My GI does know that I smoked and urged me to quit since it makes CD worse. I am very happy that I did this and I don't miss smoking at all now. I just hope I can continue to feel this way!

Scando, can you tell me if chandix is available in pharmacy in Ireland or do I need to get prescription.  Also roughly how much do they cost  (can't be as much as I spend on cigs ! )

my friend said it was about $5 a day which was less than she spent on cigs.

Chantix is AMAZING!

Hubby was a 2 packs/day smoker for more than 35 years. In the past, he had tried everything: hypnosis, gum, patches, wellbutrin and cold-turkey. None were successful. He quit last fall using Chantix. He only needed to take 7 weeks of the pills. My sister needed only 4 weeks to quit. A friend of ours did need to take it for 16 weeks.

For us, Chantix cost $110/month and was not covered by insurance, but we were spending $150/mo on Hubby's cigs ($25/carton, 3 cartons every 2wks), so after the initial cost, it definitely saved us a ton of money.

Congrats!!! I knew you could do it.  I personally did not use anything to quit, stubborn I guess.  But I can tell you I do feel much better now that I have quit.  It's so amazing to me how things smell different, taste different etc.  And I got alot of compliments on how my skin looked so much better.  Keep up the good work.  (By the way I was a 1 1/2 pack/day smoker for 29 years, and quit cold turkey).

Yes, it's available in Canada, but sold under a slightly different name, Champix.
