Iron infusions (Venofer) - they should help when?

Hi.  Just started Venofer on friday.  I had another dose today.  Did anyone get a lot of help with this?  If so, how soon did you feel better?  My ferriten is 5, so I really hope it will help.  Also, did anyone experience bad headaches with it?

aimee, how often do you get them? I'm on a 5 infusion serious right now. You do maintenance infusions? how often?

with iron replacement infusions, the type and amount plays a roll in how fast you may feel the help. first off to get so low that you actually need infusions is one problem. by that time your body has been "steeling" from your organs such as the liver and kidneys. so the first place the new iron goes is there. once they are "refueled" so to speak then you bone marrow can use the iron to make new red cells to carry the oxygen to your bodies cells. because your iron was low your hemoglobin is probably whacked as well. meaning your red cells are probably smaller than they normaly would be so you will need to amke a whole new set of reds to compensate. i think if i remember right this takes several days. so look for some improvement soon but dont worry if it takes a while longer.
