I had a c-scope last week.  The dr. (not my normal GI) told my mom that they couldn't get the scope past a certain point because of narrowing.  Do you think this could mean surgery?  I am waiting for my GI to get back to me.....once he get's the results back.

do you happen to be on Remicade? I only ask because Remicade can cause scar tissue to narrow. I hate to tell you this, but I had the same problem and after 3 scopes of not getting through, I had a bowel resection. I hope that you will be able to fix it less invasively. I've been told that it depends on what kind of narrowing it is. If it is scar tissue, it is irreversable. but if it is inflammation, there are things they can do. I've even heard that acupunture is a good way to reverse narrowing from inflammation. but there are more western solutions too. Good luck!

It would depend on what is causing the narrowing. If it is due to active disease there are many options for trying to reduce the inflammation. The drug options will take time and while they are working you will need to be very careful about what you are eating to avoid having a blockage. If the narrowing is due to scar tissue then the options are a little more personal. You will have to discuss that with your doctor. There are some posters here who are living with a "stricture" because they don't want to have surgery until it is absolutely necessary. Others just want to get on with their lives and not have to watch everything that goes in their mouth, so they opt for surgery. I have had 3 resections. Two due to active disease that was unresponsive to medicine and one that was due to scar tissue. For me, I wanted to plan my surgeries so that everything was set at home and I could schedule things around what was best for my family. I didn't want to have it be on a more emergency basis. But as I said, these are very personal issues and things that you will need to discuss with your doctor.
