Vitamin D Deficiency

Is he taking prescription Vit D? Prescription strength has helped me.

He's not been taking prescription Vit D yet.  He's trying to get an appointment with an endocrinologist.  He has been taking fosomax along with D.  There has not been a diagnosis of any kind other than deficient vit. D.

is he on a low fat diet? Vitamin d as well as calcium do not absorb well unless it is taken in conjunction with some fat. D is a fat soluable vitamin so he needs the fat to absorb the D. Try drinking whole milk (i.e. vitamin D milk). or take the d with a big mac. Most of us crohnies dont have much of a wight problem any way, so that may help. also, take the d the opposite time of day as a multi if he takes one, because your body can only absorb so much at one time. The rest will get excreted, so it wont do him much good.

I found out 2 months ago during an annual phsyical my D levels were low. I generall avoid the sun becasue I burn easily and am on 2 drugs that warn against prolonged sun exposure (6MP and levaquin). I've been taking 200 iu of D pills and am starting to feel much better. I agree with Wibiff -- take then over the course of the day to get better absorption. I get the 400 iu pills and take them morning and evening. I get more blood work in 2 weeks to see if the pills are working. If not then shot therapy is next.
