My Humira has arrived, and they've given me the **pens**!!

Four injections, when I can't even ease the pain by controlling how quickly it goes in...

*sob*

I didn't think to specify syringe or pen - I was just so thrilled to get the med at all...

I'm trying to cheer myself up by saying it's a new experience and may actually be easier to cope with than the syringes. Somehow, I think it won't be like that, though.

lol nice nearly died today had to spend frm 9.30am to 5.30pm in town with my mum the good thing is that i got a new washing machine :)

I have never used Humira myself, but have heard from many on the board that it is best to leave them out for 30 minutes or so before you use them, and also to ice the area really well beforehand too. Sure hope that at least the medication will quiet things down for you. Did it help with your joint pain lasttime you were on it?

Lots of ice first! I remember breaking out in sweat when they mentioned the pens to me!

Yes, but I've been without the medicine too long and want (need, too, I think) to take it today. I can't afford to complain, and then have them ring Sydney, get more in, do the paperwork to swap it over, deal with the PBS (in Hobart), wait for it to be delivered here, etc etc etc. There's also the problem of whether they'll actually allow the swap, seeing as it has already been bought with goverment money. I'll just have to try to do it, and be careful to be more specific about getting syringes only next time I get the script filled.

My big plan is to try to inject two, then take a short break, then try to do the other two. I've taken two panadol and have some ice ready. Here I go; wish me luck...

Glad you got your meds! I'm a chicken myself. I did the tummy with ice (once). The ice on the tummy was worse than the shot to me. I always inject in the thigh and yes, I do pinch up the skin until I remove the needle. Try concentrating on pinching yourself instead of the serum going in. Good Luck!

Well, what a surprise. I've just done #1 and it wasn't too bad at all. Just goes to show I shouldn't be scared to try something new. Here I go with #2...

It doesn't even feel as if much went in. Weird. How can you tell that you're doing it properly, if you can't see the empty syringe? I don't trust that yellow window.

I never thought I'd say it, but I think I may be one of those unusual (and fortunate) few who prefer the pen to the syringes.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. The ice worked a treat.

Now I just need to keep hoping that a) I don't react and b) that it works.

Ivy, I am so glad you got your meds and that the pens were not as bad as you feared. I hope you start to see a difference soon.

I have always said that the doctors should have to take all the carp they give us.

I can't see any difference with the gut symptoms yet, but I am **hungry** for the first time in ages -- ten days of a mainly liquid diet, no wonder. I'm going to stick with light food, though, until I know what I can cope with.

Oh Ivy...I am sorry about that!! I know they hurt so much! I had trouble just giving myself the one pen I am now required to take. It took me literally about two days just to inject it.
I'm really glad you were able to get the humira in the first place though. I hope it gets you in a much better physical state :) Best wishes to you!
