is it normal from a prep to bring on a flare?

I had to prep with mag citrate for a capsule study and now, the day after the study, i am in what seems to be a full on flare. is this normal and will it go away on its own?

I've only prepped while in a flare, so I can't say that it has. I do think the prep wipes out all the flora in your system, good and bad, which then requires time to repopulate. Does the study require you to only use certain meds? If not, I'd start up on a probiotic to get some good bacteria going in your gut again.

No the C-Scope preps don't cause me to flare, but they will irritate my intestines. I will have a few crappy days afterward, but that is just a few bad days, not a flare. JMHO

Those very harsh chemicals used in the very strong laxative used to cleanse the colon can, in my opinion, aggravate intestinal inflammation.  I often feel miserable days or even weeks after a colonoscopy.

I was much worse off after my prep and after my scope. I was in more of a flare than before the scope. I was flaring before it but not that badly. Karen

Everytime I've done prep I've gotten really sick...throw up, D, the usual flare stuff. I also get really dehydrated. They've had to get a vain in my foot before. This will usually last for a few days sometimes a week, depending on the prep. Fleet is the worst...but I don't think they use that anymore. Honestly, I have found the Mag citrate to be the most gentle, which doesn't say much tho. I'm about to go through that h*** in about a week...fun fun...

I was alot worse after my prep. I used Picolax, it kills me! I too was also flaring before that but not nearly as bad as I was after the prep.

I took it once before, and they actually admitted me to hospital as I was so ill after it. I was also in a flare then, but I was so weak when I got to the hospital that I just burst into tears, they did the scope, then admitted me there and then. Then they put me on Remicade so it was probably for the best that it made me ill at the time as I'd been trying to get Remicade for ages tongue

Anything is possible, C-scopes alone can bring on flares, I don't know that it would just go away on it's own though whether it's brought on by a C-scope or by prepping, it would likely be like any other flare that is brought on for what ever reason.

They always cause me to flare. It can take 2-3 weeks for me to get back to "normal" again after prep and scope.

The prep always gets me!! I usually am already well on my way to flaredom, and the prep seals the deal. THe last time (last week) I was in the hospital, the dr new what it would do to me and I spent 2 extra days in there with just IV to try and clean out naturally. It didn't work though because my intestines were paralysed and not working. It usually takes a week or so normally after other preps to start on the mend. I want to try the pills, but insurance won't pay for them. Oh well, chalk it up to part of our wonderful gift of a disease.
