Halloween is HUGE in our house. We have been doing a haunted house at our house for about
20 years, each year it grows and changes. But, last year my husband said, he needed a year off, so he warned everyone that it was the last one!
I'm talking building walls, elaborate sets, cast of 20 - 25 friends and family, we usually have about
300 people go through. It was all that was talked about
at the summer BBQs, are you really not doing the haunted house? Then, he got booked to take a business trip and was going to be away all week, our kids are in college, one in Salem, MA, Halloween central, do you think she's coming home on Halloween, NO. So, I'm going to be home alone, left to answer the door to all the disappointed neighbors and I've been so sad about
it for months. I was planning on hiding in my bedroom with all the lights out and not answering the door.
BUT, 2 days ago, my husbands business trip got shortened and he'll be home and then he started planning how to haunt the outside of the house on a more minor scale.
He usually puts in over 60 hours of work on this and our friends put in about
half as much time too, its a huge undertaking for 3 hours of fun for the town, bu they all love it. I just knew he couldn't stay away entirely.
I am the costume maker. I sew all the costumes for the characters or adapt ones we buy. And of course I am in charge of feeding everyone. Lasagna, Salad, garlic bread before the haunted house. Reheated Lasagna..... and Brownies after.
Oh and did I mention, I went into labor during one of our haunted houses and wasn't allowed to turn on any lights to time my contractions, and the haunted house had to be cleaned up before I left for the hospital. We take Halloween very seriously in this family.
