Okay...what is the "ONE" food that you just can't stay away from on Turkey Day?
My downfall will be the pumpkin pie....best darn breakfast in the world!

Turkey, did someone mention Turkey? I have the perfect recipe
Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.
8 - 15 lb. turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing
1 cup uncooked popcorn (any brand)
Salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.
Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's ass blows the oven door
open and the bird flies across the room, it's done.

Four (??)-generation recipe of stuffing. Still haven't got this one down all the way and make my mother stand right there while I make it so I get it right and can one day teach my daughter... not written down as if it's taboo to do so - lol
YUMMY!!! Don't care if it hurts, I'm eating it!

it depends on who cooks...If I am cooking it would be a toss up between pumpkin pie and stuffing (both hurt like the dickens later though). If my sister in law is cooking.....my
cookies I bring to add to dessert (wow is her turkey and stuffing dry and she can't make gravy). I always make our own thanksgiving type dinner a few days after thanksgiving since we eat at his sis's house and have no leftovers

pumpkin pie, stuffing, turkey with cran. sauce and gravy, buttery mashed potatoes... all the works. Can't have one without the other on Thanksgiving.

It's a toss up between the mashed taters and pumpkin pie. I love both, but don't eat either very often..

I love turkey!!! But I also love the mashed potatoes, corn and gravy. I don't eat too much corn, but allow myself a little bit at the holidays. If I only eat a little I am okay.

If pumpkin pie gives you a bad time , try running the pumpkin through a ricer before you put it in the shell. I even run potatoes through one before making mashed potatoes. It gets all the fibers out. My old gut says its the way to go...

Um......everything. Knock on wood, I'd consider myself in remission currently so I'm not too restricted on my diet. But the upcoming weeks of baked goods over the holidays will no doubt give me a little tummy trouble. Oh and the corn that we cut from the cob and froze this summer will taste sooooooo good!

The turkey skin! Oh yum. And in my family we have stuffed dates out all day long. Dates stuffed with peanut butter then rolled in sugar. They do a number on me, but we only have them on Thanksgiving and Christmas, its family tradition and who can argue with that. Plus they are somewhat good for you.

I don't indulge. I eat just white meat turkey and some yeast rolls. My plate looks pathetic.

Gemini - You crack me up! That bird wouldn't have the chance to land in this house cause it would have a healthy 90lb. labador retriever waiting with baited breath on the other side of the room!
Sniper- I've been around awhile and (anyone can answer this) but what the heck is a ricer, how do you use it and where do you get one?

A ricer is a device that forces food through small holes like a strainer. Its like a cup with holes in the bottom and a plunger on top. You can also use a food mill. It has a paddle inside that turns with a crank and it mashes the pumpkin or potatoes or what ever you wish through the small holes in the pan and makes it much more tender, plus it takes out fiber and seeds. You can get them anywhere cooking supplies are sold. People use them to make baby food or in our case crohnie food. You can make much smoother creamed potatoes, sweet potatoes, or any dish with fiber or seeds. I think they call them ricers because it easier to say than food masher upper strainer cranky thingies . Really, if you have gut trouble from too much fiber they work wonders. Makes me wonder if anyone else uses one...

Okay, I might me the nutty one. Everything on thanksgiving is terrific especially the mashed taters and white meat turkey with giblet gravy but my favorite is the leftovers. I love fixing lunch the next afternoon while I'm decorating the house for Christmas.
Two years ago I was in the hospital on Thanksgiving so I didn't get to make dinner. It was so depressing coming home from the big house and not having any leftovers in the house.
I kept telling my husband to take our son(20) and daughter(14) to one of our relatives house for thanksgiving dinner. He didn't want to go without me so he took them to Jack-In-The-Box. I still can't believe he did that. LOL!!!!

I'm with Vicky. I love the leftovers too. I even make 2X the amount of everything so the everyone can take a plate home. So before everything gets put away, we have the annual, make you plate go around. One year my Husband's Uncle brought out his own huge container. He took every last bit of turkey. The only thing he left was the bones. I had spent days cooking and was left with no left over turkey. I had to go out the next day and start over just so my family could have leftover dinners. Obviously, he's never been invited for Thanksgiving again and he's serving time in purgatory cause his wife make Tofurky for Thanksgiving.

Candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie...I can tolerate the mashed potatoes so far I think though. Mainly it's the sweet foods that cause trouble :( and I have a pretty big sweet tooth.

Okay...
Dressing (also made from generations old recipe), green bean casserole, and green rice (or cheesy broccoli-rice bake to others) are my favorites. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to have issues with every single item I just typed. I don't know if I can care about
the agony of later when it could break a persons' heart wanting to have your old traditional Thanksgiving. I'm planning on listening to my gut first, then the good angel or bad one.
