Hi Guy's,

I run into an old school friend at the weekend and we got talking about life and stuff. To my surprise, he advised that he is getting tested for chrons disease. I advised that I have it and he was just as surprised.

My question is this, when they are carrying out investgations into chrons, would they place you onto Pred to control it whikst carrying out the investigations? He seems to be using the same doc as me and he advised that they are pretty sure that he has chrons, and have placed him onto pred 30mg to try and bring it under control. He has not been scoped yet for it, is it normal for a doc top prescribe these drugs if they have not confirmed the DX of chrons?

PS: I told him of this site and he will be hear tonight to bug your minds for answers. LOL

Opps forgot to say that all his symptomns match Chrons. Would they do that based on symptoms alone?

They could, and it is a drug that does a lot of good. It depends on if you doctor is agressive or reserved. But either way it will bring inflamation down no matter which proplem he has. Which is why it is used for asthma and allergies.

thanks for that. They would not give me any drugs until it was confirmed that I had chrons. Darn! The pred is still not havinjg any effect on my flare at the moment, and it has been 10 days and counting! I only hope that it works for him!

Yes, the Dr. would prescribe prednasone for a flare, whether it was crohns, ulcerative colitis or IBD . . . steroids are a terrible but effective drug.  I hope that both of you are helped and have a remission of your flares!!

A short dose of pred can sometimes work wonders for people. I found it great but alas i didnt taper very well and am back on it along with imuran. Im hoping for a long remission :)

Hope you are feeling better Conor - you;ve been through the mill the last while. I myself am dying for the christmas holidays just for the break from work turn

Thanks for that. I have been through it alright but getting there. Pred are just not working for me. Knowning that my friend has been given them with only his symptoms and no tests worries me, known the side effects. But that is not my choice but, then again, it would be nice to know for him.

I see that everyone seems to get effective relief from pred, but not as of yet for me,. I have been written out of work for 13 weeks by my docotr, it is a good job that my job will pay me full sick for up to six months, or i would be buggered.
