HORROR STORY! EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS...

I am soooooo pissed off right now!! I just got out of the hospital from a 2 night stay. I was having more diarreah and pain and was running a low grade fever...they found a cyst on my ovary and did a quick scope of my colon with no prep (thank god lol) and they GI said he saw 50% of my intestines and that they looked great! We were worried the remicade wasn't working and what not, but he said it definitely is.  He said my pain and discomfort is most likely from the fact that my bowels aren't moving around properly.  Instead of making one big poop, it makes a bunch of little ones which causes me to go more often and have more pain because I'm getting no relief each time i go.  Well, my stupid primary care doctor came in this morning after i was given a ton of fiber, miralx, and even an enema to get me to go (i was so blocked up and didn't go for over 2 days straight..ouch lol) and he asked me what the GI said.  I told him that he said it was functional and that my bowels look great, it's just that the trauma they went through this past summer was so severe that they r having a hard time functioning normally again.  My primary care doctor said no.  He said he talked to the GI for 15 minutes about how this pain is all in my head and that i have anxiety disorder and that's why i feel this "pain."  He did this last time to me when I was in the hospital for over a month, he tried to get me to take xanax XR and i didnt cuz it made me sedated and non-functioning for days.  I tried to disagree with him, but assured him I totally believe there is a connection with mind and body and stress and anxiety can make it worse.  He kept saying my GI should have told me about my anxiety problem because he was the one who brought it up, but the GI never once said anything about anxiety or my emotional state!!  So he put me on some low grade anxiety pill and let me get discharged.  Well, my mom thought it was strange that my orders for miralax and fiber weren't on the med list to take home, so her and the nurse checked the GI's notes.  He did write down that i needed miralax and fiber supplements daily and how much to take, BUT MY PRIMARY PHYSICIAN DISCONTINUED THE GI'S ORDERS!!! He had it in his freeking head that it's anxiety that caused me to go to the ER with pain and not my disease! We r changing doctors and getting ahold of my GI and telling him about this bullcrap.  What my mom is more worried about is if next time I go in and they see in my charts that my primary care dr. said i have anxiety problems which r causing my "pain" then no one will listen to me or even help me.  this pisses me off soooooooooo much! I understand that mind and body go hand in hand, but there is a scientific explanation behind the pain I am still having.  I hate that man with a passion and am never going to see him again!!!!  I just cant believe this is happening to me! ok thanks for letting me vent, this is just terrible and i will be pissed for a very long time about this whole ordeal!!!!

I'm glad to hear you're changing doctors. That simply is not right what he did...what a terrible ordeal :( I hope you find someone better soon.

I hope your GI doctor gives that guy the what for as well!

Oh boy. I'm glad you're trying to get a new doctor. I can't imagine you or anyone having to cope with that year after year...

Hope you find a real doctor and not a quack like this one. By the way the mind and the body are one, so says any doctor worth a dime. Real pain is real pain....

Man... that kind of almost sounds like what I had to go through not too long ago... *It wasn't nearly as bad... err... well the pain-wise, it definitely was, but doctor-wise, I don't think it was...* Having this disease can certainly cause anxiety... so later on, it might actually be a good idea to take something for anxiety...

But yeah... I completely agree with you... Pain is pain... Oh, and besides bowel pain... Have you considered maybe the pain is being caused by the cyst on your ovary? *Might be time for you to visit a gynecologist about that* //@.@\\'... Like deja vu.... I had cysts on my right ovary.... and then it developed into a mass.... and then I had to have the mass and the whole ovary taken out... Talk about painful...

Most of my doctors have been good, but there have been a few duds. Sometimes I wish that these unsympathetic doctors could feel what it's like once in a while, so they know what we go through.

I never wanted to wish Crohn's disease on anyone, but for ImAud's primary care physician I'll make an exception. Then perhaps his subsequent bowel resection will also be "all in his head."

let me add my 2 cents.  I agree with you all.  It is one thing to have two doctors have different opinions, but to have the generalist cancel the specialist's orders is unacceptable.  I'm glad everyone jumped on it so effectively.  Does this doctor have any place on line where you can register a complaint?  Maybe the boss of his group, or something like that?

Hang in there.  most doctors are at least trying to do the best they can, I think.

I wouldn't wish Crohns on my best enemy....but I would desire that the 'Ol Primary Doc" had a good run of constipation oh...let's say about a weeks worth! That'll said "his" head straight!

As for you the fleet should do it. Hope you're feeling well again real soon!

Every state and province has a board/college that regulates the practice of medicine. Your physician will be registered with that state board and it is the board's responsibility to handle complaints involving malpractice, negligence or incompetence. You should be able to find your state's licensing authority online and find out how to file a complaint.

Your GP really does need to understand this disease a little better. The last thing your body needs right now is anti-anxiety medicine, which will only slow down the bowel even more, perhaps increasing the risk of ileus.

If you decide to register a complaint with the licensing authority, my suggestion is that you couch the complaint in terms of your concerns for the broader public good. You've dealt with his ignorance appropriately, but other patients may not have your courage, resources or understanding of their condition to deal with it as you have.
