Hi PB4,

I had a question about probiotics for you. I seem to remember a couple of posts from you on the subject that were very informative. 

I've checked out Natures Way, as I believe that was what you recommended. They seem to have quite a few different types. Could you explain which you use? Are there certain choices specifically for Crohn's or Colitis? Does it depend where the Crohn's is?

Hi Tom,

They are not necessarily geard towards IBD, but they do have guaranteed intestinal release which is one of the reasons why I chose it...I use the caps, intially in the beginning I started with the powder then switched to the caps and there is no difference other than convenience, between them. I also like them because only one/day is needed, many of them require you to take up to 4 or more/day and that gets expensive...I pay 29.00 CDN for 90 caps which last me 90 days, many of the others are 35.00 for 60 requiring 4 or more/day to be taken.

Of course what works for some doesn't work for all but it's a good stepping stone to see how you might benefit from this particular brand, but like I said, with it having guaranteed intestinal release that's really what sold me on the primadophilus reuteri made by natures way, the only downside is they must be kept cold (even where you purchase them they should be stored in their fridge).

Thanks very much PB4, I did price the reteuri, 30 capsules $22.95, from a local Health food store.

watch out for L Rhamnosus; it has been shown to potentially make IBD worse and it is in a lot of so-called good probiotic brands. A good probiotic is not necessarily always good for IBD

L Rhamnosus is not in primadophilus reuteri...here's a link Tom which shows a good price on line for the PR and what bacterial cultures are in it...

Natures Way now has pearls that are room stable and deliver probiotics to the small intestine, and that can have some big advantages. They worked great for me. The drawback is for some they pass through the digestive system whole, and they are not SCD legal.
