I am worried about
my six-year-old. He is REALLY backed up! This is his 3rd time, but his 2nd this bad, in about
1 1/2-2 years. Our Family Dr. is sending him to a Pediatric Gastro. on 12-9-08. FD asked if there was any thing else. I said, "Yeah, tell them his Mom (meaning me) has Crohn's and so did Mom's grandfather. Mom's grandmother had Ulcerative Colitis, and died from Stomach Cancer." He looked a little surprised, a lot concerned, and told the nurse to put that in the referral. I feel awful, because I did not know how much pain my baby was in until he told the nurse (using the faces pain chart) how high the pain got from time to time (8-9). He also said "Yes" when they asked him if it burns sometimes when he goes to the bathroom. They asked him twice and seperated urination from the bowel movements. He just does not complain about
pain. He never told me how bad it was, he just said, "My Pee pee hurts." :(
He had been pulling at himself. An Aunt that watches him a lot, thought maybe his testicles had not come down, so I took him in. Once they heard the symptoms, they took a urine test and did an x-ray.
His only symptoms were:
1. Pulling at himself
2.Repeated switching between constipation, diarrhea, and regular stools
3. Last week, sharp pains enough for him to scream for me in the night, but he was fine by the afternoon the next day.
4. His belly pain is right behind his belly button. That is where my pains first started. Now I usually feel them just to the left of my belly button, which is weird, because I have a TINY canker in my Ilium.
The FD said his painful urination could be from the full bowel laying on his bladder.
I know this is not a whole lot to go on. I am hoping it is something to do with his diet. Lately, he has become allergic to strawberry flavoring. He can have strawberries, but not any sort of artificial flavoring, which is sad because he loves ALL strawberry flavorings. That was how I used to get him to drink his milk. His face breaks out in a rash next to his lips if he has any artificial strawberry flavorings. Except cheap, add-in strawberry milk flavorings. I have to stick with the Walmart cheap strawberry flavor or the Aldi cheap strawberry flavor, and he has to limit how much of it per day, or he will break out from that too. He can not have the pre-made though, like you buy near the pre-mixed chocolate milk. He does ok with white and chocolate milk.
What should I look for? I know it is rare that it goes directly down the line. If I carry the gene, it ought to have skipped him and affected my grandchildren. Right? It's a little scary knowing the risk of cancer too. My mother died from Breast Cancer, her mother died from Stomach Cancer, and my grandmother's brother died from "The Cancer". My father's grandmother died from Ovarian Cancer. My husband's grandfather's mother died from (they think Breast)Cancer, and my husband's grandfather then died from Multiple Mylo ma (chewing) and my husband's Uncle, Grandfather's son, died from Emphysema (smoking), and his Aunt, grandfather's daughter, has cancer too.
Thank you for any thoughts.
