I have been bleeding a lot lately... every time I have a bm the toilet water is bright red with blood (all of the water...), plus there is a lot blood in the feces. I have noticed that my periods have become so light I only need a panty liner. I have taken pregnancy tests and have ruled that out.

Has anyone found that Crohn's bleeding affects their period? I am wondering if my periods have become so light because of all the intestinal bleeding. Is it possible that my body is conserving blood??? I mentioned it to my GI but he didn't really comment on the period stuff.

I don't get my period since i have been on the pill since oct 07.
But i don't know what i would do if i had to bleed each month and have the bleeding from crohn's. I would be bloodless :S

I'm on the pill and it makes it so my periods last 3-4 days. They vary though...sometimes they're extremely light and other times pretty heavy.

There isn't a possibility of hemorrhoids is there??

Hi Sassy,

I have had crohn's for 29 years and my period is normal. I wonder if you are anemic? Also maybe some medication you are on is effecting your hormones. I don't know, just a guess! I would definately be telling my dr. about the amount of blood you are loosing though.

I have the same issue. My periods have not been the same since my resection in 03. Mine are very light (I don't have to use anything), but the light bleeding can be anywhere from 8-22 days a month. I have been through a variety of tests with my GYN, took 3 different kinds of birth control (even though I had my tubes tied 15 years ago) and even had the endometrial ablation surgery 2 years ago to stop my periods, which didn't work. My GYNs ( I have been to 2 now due to moving) cannot figure out the reason for it. Best of luck to you.

 I have been vleeding a lot from my bottom and the toliet water yuk turns red my gi just ignores me about it and says that it  is a obstruction and that im tryin to hard (hehehehehehe) but i have a IUD and no cycles but when is time I still have the cramps and do think that it  could be the CD that has u all swoll in the wrong areas take to your ob and c its ok k if u just talk to your docs to find out  if the gi doesn't know find someone who does turn

I have had crohns for 23 years and my periods are now few and far between

My biggest problem is I have more cramping with my period and I've actually missed some time from work because of it since CD

My biggest issues are that a few days before, during and a few days after my periods my IBD symptoms are much more exacerbated so I'm actually going to look into stopping my periods all together...I'm done having kids, I'll be 42 this yr and about 15 yrs ago I got the clips put on my tubes to prevent pregnancy and now I want my periods to stop to see if that will (and it most likely will) alieviate my unbearable symptoms of CD during my monthly cylces.

I'm gonna talk to my doc about the IUD so I don't have to take another pill daily (which BTW BC pills seemed to make my CD symptoms worse as well likely because of the increased hormones in my system) and it can be left in for up to 5 yrs before it has to be changed.

If anyone eles has gone this route, please share your experiances, I know we're all different but it's nice to have guidelines from other peoples experiances.

I was thinking about going back on the pill myself--anything to get out of the monthly misery!
