It's been 5 years from my last colonoscopy and I am at the tail end of my prep. In fact one glass left and I have gagged on the last two and don't think I can get the last one down. When you say the bowel movements need to run clear do you mean crystal clear because mine is still yellow but nothing in it. Do you think it would hurt if I didn't drink the last glass. Thank you donna

Hi Donna I don't drink that kind of prep. but I would think if there is no feces in the BM but one never knows if there is more in there,sorry if this isn't much help. lol gail

My nurses said that some debris is all right. As long as you're basically cleared out so to speak.

Thank you so much for your reply, I think I am done there is no way that last glass will go down. Thank you this makes me feel better about not drinking that last glasses and I am still going and its clear. Thanks again. donna

I just had one last week and did not drink the last of it. Everything was fine!!! Don't put yourself through that!! :) Good Luck and Good Night!

Hi Grammy,

My doc said "clear" meant no pieces of stuff rather than clear in color. I ran a bit yellow in color but with no pieces, and my doc said I was sparkling clean!! Ahhh! An ealry spring cleaning!

I hope your scope goes really well tomorrow! Get a good night sleep, and then you can sleep some more during the procedure. Just don't do what one guy did -- he was ahead of me in the check-in line. The receptionist asked him the standard question "have you eaten anything". He said yes -- toast!!! Toast!! I just imagined little pieces of burnt toast in the scope! Needless to say they sent him home. All of that for nothing!!!! Eeeek!!! So no toast for you!

so long as there are no chunks of any size then I'd say you're fine to stop drinking the prep, just drink lots of water to help flush your system out now.

I've heard similar advice pertaining to that oh so tasty barium they make us drink sometimes. The nurse told me that if I felt like it was going to make me puke, just stop. With the scope prep, the stuff you're taking (Golightly, Nulightly, oh the funny names..) is going to dehydrate you enough as it is. You don't want to be puking on top of that. And make sure you drink enough water after drinking that nasty stuff!! Get Smar***er if you can, it's got electrolytes in it, but no added stuff like it's sibling VitaminWater which is all coloring and sugar.

I'm sure you'll be fine if you drink plenty of fluids. No point making yourself sick, especially since you got the first drink down which will probably have cleared you out!

I want to thank all of you for your replies. I did not drink the last of it. Still not feeling well this morning and my test is not until 1:00 this afternoon. My stomach is making so much nosie and I am still going to the bathroom. All most over now. Thanks again for all the help. donna

Thank you all for your help. It went down hill on the prep, I didn't finish but stay so sick to my stomach was still that way when I went for my test. During the test the Dr. said I was in such pain that I asked him to stop so he did and he didn't finish the test. I feel like such an a** to go through all that prep and get so sick and still don't know what was causing all the pain. I guess I see the Dr. in a few weeks and I will see what happens. We have a snow day today so I'm not a works and that fine with me today,I'm still bummed out about all this. Thank you all for your help. Best of health to everyone. donna

Oh no!!! To go thru the prep and them not be able to finish the scope. I am so sorry to hear you had to go thru that, that is just awful. I think its one of my worst nightmares. Maybe you could ask the doc about a CT Enterography? These tests are said to be one of the newer ones, and the docs are able to see quite alot with them. No prep, just nothing after midnight. You do have to drink some contrast, but its really not that bad.

That is very sad to hear! I hope your stomach is feeling better now. Dont' kick yourself. Its not your fault the prep made you sick. You did what you could. It sounds like you muscled through it and got yourself cleaned out. I think some preps are easier on the body than others!

I wasn't at all awake for my colonoscopy. I wonder why some doctors keep their patients awake (light sedation)?? Did you doctor say what was next?

I can't imagine being awake for a colonscopy. I woke up during my last one. Wow! that was an experience. Doc immediatly gave me more drugs!
