HI there,

Well they delayed my biopsy of the lump on my neck due to bronchitis. They put me on Avelox as an antibiotic and for 3 days afterwards I had major diarrhea going about 12-18 times a day. Yesterday (2days later) I noticed a minor rectal itch today I woke up in agony. My rectum was throbbing. It hurts to walk, sit, cough and have a bowel movement let alone wipe. I had a temp of 99.8, my gastro is away so I called my PCP she couldn't see me but she called in a RX for hemroid supository cortisone. But I'm not getting any relief!! I'm nervous is could be an abscess I've never had one. When I contort my body to see with a mirror...sorry to be graphic I can see a pocket or puffy area with a sore next to it and two other little sores in a line next to the first sore. Do I go to the ER? Or trust my crapy PCP? (I've been looking for a new one) Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi Broach,

I was on Avelox pills for a month once, and several other times for shorter periods. It is a very good antibiotics but it is very strong!! Diarrhea is quite normal. It also left me dizzy and spacey. It sounds like the major D gave you hemmies and possibly fissures. They can be very very painful! I suggest you use Preparation H for a few days with the supositories your doc gave you. And plenty of hot sitz baths (in the tub)! Hopefully the area will calm down and stops itching in a few days. Unfortunately, they take time to calm down. I hope you get relief soon!!

Hi If you are worried about it and it is something new, go to emerg. and I agree soaking will probably help. The joys of crohn's eh.. Sure hope you feel better soon. What color is your puffy area and are your sores having any discharge? lol gail

I agree with Gail about seeing a doctor/ER. If there is discharge then it could be something else. Seeing your doctor can't hurt and you will find out what it is. I sure hope it isn't an abscess!! Let us know what happens.

THe puffy area is light pink. The sores look like pimples just much redder. I thought the cortisone was helping but I was sadly mistaken this afternoon. I had some odd drainage after a really sharp pain, now the pain is still chuggin along. God I love this life

Hi Sounds like it is infected to me. Perhaps the antibotics helped it to drain and are you soaking? I would get it checked out ..lol gail

I have had this before and if you have had a temp the story sounds familiar. I went through 4 doctors and finally rushed to ER for surgery to drain my abscess's and nearly died from septicemia. My point of that is most general practitioners (I) have come across don't now anything if much about this disease and you should see a GI or just pressure the GP to make sure its not an abscess to rule it out, because the longer it drags on the worse it gets.

I Hope you can find the answers your after i know how frustrating it is.

I just want to thank everyone who replied to my post. My PCP wouldn't see me again and my local gastro doesn't take in emergencies so my gym saw and sure enough I had a huge abscess and was borderline septic. Next thing you know I'm being admitted to the hospital. SO I just want to thank you all for the advise and personal experiences, I was told I was lucky I pushed through to see a doctor. I'm much more comfortable and currently shopping for a new PCP and local gastro for emergencies. I go to NYC for the real treatment. Thanks again!!!

I am SO glad you took charge! And bless your GYN! I hope it heals up soon! Oh yeah, and ditch that PCP!!
