Hello!  Just thought I would update everyone.  I will be having sugery on Thursday in San Antonio.  I will be in the hospital for one week and out of work for six weeks.  I will be glad to not be hurting anymore.  I think I waited to long go go in, so if anyone is hurting go in immediatly..Please keep me in your prayers..I will update everyone when I get home from the hospital and I am doing well enough to get on the computer again....my sugery will be on my small intestine.  I have an obstruction in it...talk to everyone in a few weeks...Angela

Hello Angela,

I am so glad you have a surgery date! While no one wants to endure this, be strong and keep your eye on the prize!! No pain!! Remission!! It helped me to continuously remind myself that every day that went by -- even every hour -- I was that much closer to being healed and feeling great!

I suggest you get the name and number of a good nurse that is willing to take your calls if you have problems. They often are compasionate and generous with their time for those who are in need. My only other suggestion is to get your bedroom all set up now so it will be ready for you when you come home. Books, magazines, tissues, TV, light-hearted movies, etc. When I was really really sick, the last thing I wanted was sad dramas, medical shows that reminded me of my condition, or violent movies! And stock up on soups!

Hey Angela,

I'm new to this site so I don't know many people.  Im scheduled for surgery on Feb 12, removing most of my colon.  I'm 45, diagnosed 25 years and this will be my first surgery.  I have been on Remicade since 1999.  Know that my prayers are with you, I usually say about 5 Rosaries every day, they even help at night when I can't sleep.  Keep us posted, and I hope this is the miracle we are both looking for.

We'll be thinking about you Angela! I truly hope you get the relief from this that you deserve.

Angela and gutless1der I wish you both the best with your surgeries. Try to walk as much as possible afterwards as this helps to get things moving again. Also, try to slowly work food back into your diet. Just because they bring you a regular tray, you are not always ready right away to go there. You both should also ask about a pain pump. This allows you to give your self pain meds as needed instead of waiting for the nurse to come in and give it to you. Don't worry about od'ing as it is given in measured amounts every so many minutes. Also, don't be surprised that after a couple of days you develop explosive D, this is normal as your bowels adjust to the change, and will get better within a few weeks.


Oh gutless1der, I didn't have my first surgery until I had had the disease for over 20 years. You are luckier than I though, in that your surgery is planned vs mine was an emergency resection.

I hope you both enjoy long long remissions after your surgeries. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Best of luck to both of you for your surgeries. My prayers are always with you. I had the J pouch surgery 3 years back and am fine. Please have a strong will power and things would always be fine if you think positive. Take all precautions after surgery to avoid infection/incisional hernia/blockages/dehydration. Eat lots of choclates to gain strength after surgery and give you enough calories. Drink lot of fluids.

Wish you the best of luck out of it. I'm also going for Laproscopic Resection Surgery late this Feb. I don't know exactly the Final date, it is depend on my .Health condition. What I can add I'm so excited to have this surgery done and remove some of my Small intestine. I cann't wait for a remission after word.
