Cimzia
Methotrexate

No mention of Imuran. I'm really feeling defeated right now and I caught some sort of infection as well. The antibiotic is only going to tear up my insides, but I don't know what else to do as I can barely swallow my throat is so sore...

Thanks for all the input over the last few days... I just need something to go my way sooner or later. I'm physically and mentally drained.

(All that aside, I've been eating better and looks like I have lost somewhere around 7-10 lbs on weight watchers in the past 5 weeks!)

(((Kaycie))) Honey you can't win for losing. If its not the Crohns its something else. I sure hope you get this Crohns figured out and this infection goes away soon.

Hey Kaycie Hope your infection clears soon and at least with Humira it is a weekly injestion and if you got sick with a nasty bug or something a person can put there shot off for awhile to recoup...lol gail

I'm on Humira (since July 2008), and find it quite helpful. Injections are only once every two weeks, unless you aren't responding or get worse. The only side effect I have is a red itchy spot at the site of the injection, and it goes away within a day or two.

IMHO, Tsyabri would be my choice of last resort. It sounds a lot scarier than the other biologics.

Whatever you choose, I hope it turns things around for you fast!

I agree with spooky about Tsyabri, and I would say the same about Cimzia. I myself am choosing to wait (maybe even a few years) before I opt for those drugs. I also failed Remicade but can't take Humira because of the neurological side effect. I'm on MTX, it worked great for about a year but the past few months the effectiveness has dwindled. They probably didn't suggest Imuran for you because its just not strong enough to do the job...it might just delay the inevitable. They used to prescribe Imuran or 6MP along with Remicade or Humira but recent evidence shows it doesn't make a difference...patients will develop an intolerance anyways or eventually need something else.

I'm not sure if they use Cipro to treat whatever infection you have, but thats a fairly gentle antibiotic.

So sorry you are having trouble. I am on humira now and it has changed my life. it replaced 3 other CD meds I was taking. I also take every other week and seem to be doing well. I have a sinus infection and my GI told me I can go ahead and give myself the shot today on schedule. I think he figures if I skip the flare up would be worse than the sinus infection anyway. Don't get discouraged it took me a while to get on the right medicine. I get barely any side effects so I am happy I made this choice. good luck making yours Karen

I would say try Humira my doctor was about to put me in Humira until I was hospitalized and going through a surgery soon. But that would be my next choice after failing Rimicade amonth or so ago . Worth the shot hope that make you feel better. remember always have a hope that one day things will work for you. don't give up

Thanks for all the kind responses. You are all making me feel much better about a next step. I'm researching Humira now. I'm a-ok with giving my own shots as I went through in-vitro fertilization and had to give my own intramuscular and sub-q shots. So, I know a few tricks to prevent the burning and such.

More thoughts are certainly appreciated. I'm glad I'm not alone on being scared of Tsyabri.

I'll give another pro-Humira experience smilewinkgrin. I was anemic for 15 some odd years. Even iron infusions didn't restore my ferritin levels. After a couple of months on Humira, my hemoglobin and ferritin levels shot up well into normal range. I also no longer have abdominal and back pain. If I recall correctly, it took up to a couple months for me to really see results.

Some people complain of joint pain while on Humira, but I've been lucky enough to avoid that potential side effect.

spookyhurst - I certainly hope I don't get the joint pain because I suffer from that right now. All that aside, my hemoglobin levels are low and I'm constantly anemic, so that gives me some hope there.

More responses are certainly welcome. Though I'm in constant pain, I'm feeling better about having aother positive options besides surgery.
