So if all the probiotics, which are the best (allegedly) for CD?
I don't think that there's a simple answer for this--yet. I know VSL#3 has been through clinical trails for folks with UC... it has many different genus(?) and species of beneficial bacteria in it, so I think it would be next to impossible to determine which were the most effective. However, somebody--some experts--had to determine what is "beneficial", so I guess it comes down to trusting that they know what that is. Also, understanding that it may be an individual experience, as well.
That said, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the genus "Lactobacillus" is a very safe and beneficial place to start. Lactobacillus has (according to Wiki) 125 species, probably the most common ones you hear about
are L. acidophilus, L. salivarius, and L. reuteri. If you care to read about
Lactobacillus on Wiki, you'll get a general overview.
Western medicine has only JUST begun to study the benefits of probiotics. I think much more information will be forthcoming. I just wish they weren't adding them into sugar laden, processed JUNK FOOD!!! Isn't is just like us (modern society) to KILL everything beneficial (pasteurization) only to attempt to figure out what SHOULD be there and add it back in later...
...with sugar and other junk, of course.
Hope this helps a bit, Jid!
