Eating with a stricture?

I have a stricture at the end of the colon and don't know if I should eat softer foods, or more Fiber (that hurts some times) or more liquid stuff. When I was very sick a few weeks ago I think it might have completely closed up (No bowel stuff coming trough for two days) but then I started up again but very small amounts all day leaking out. Haven't seen the Doc since ending a drug study and not wanting to go on any drugs if I could stand it. Needless to say I am struggling along these last two months, but not flaring as bad as with drugs. I just can't guess what my body will do next, or what I should do to not close down completely.

I'm sorry to hear that :( Are you sure you want to be off meds right now? I mean, having a stricture at the end of the colon is BAD and it won't go like this forever :(

I wish I could advise you on what to eat. I have a slight stricture at the end of my colon and I haven't noticed that food I eat makes a difference. It's not like having a structure in your small intestine because your colon forms your stool and when it comes down it'll either go through very painfully or just come out in drops. The other possibility is that you get diarrhea as the colon doesn't function right anyway and it comes out in drops too and/or quick diarrhea. That's what I've noticed with me. And it hurts like heck and I don't even have a large stricture. I can only imagine how you feel :(

Has your doctor mentioned anything about the dilatation of colon? My doctor's mentioned this to me. It's very painful but it could help you not to close down completely...and it's better than having a surgery where they take that part out and well...you know, it's a nightmare then. :( :( :(

Well I really think you need to see your doctor and get on some type of medication or treatment. Strictures are not things to mess with. You could end up with a perforation and things could get very dangerous then. Please get in to see your GI soon.

I have a stricture in sigmoid colon and have been on a low fibre diet. Have had numerous scopes and an endorectal ultrasound in February showed that there is deep scar tissue. I am having surgery in May to remove it.

Thanks for the comments and ideas. I will call the Dr. I just thank Dr. doesn't know what to do either. I have been on every med possible and nothing has worked much but Preg. and I can't take that any more. It makes me crazy and I lost job and almost husband while on it. Yeah, I'll keep trying to figure this out.
